I think the TRUE personal software era era is real. In ~2 hours on Manus Desktop, I built my own Mac launcher and screenshot app.

When we were building our AI browser last year, we went with a vertical tabs layout. It was super useful — we loved it. Sadly, it never launched.
Still remember those days debating whether we should go vertical or not. One interesting thing we noticed — whenever we shared screenshots or recordings with the vertical layout, people would ask “what browser is that?”
Turns out, the layout itself created a bit of awareness.

Last summer, while we were deep in our browser project, @cursor_ai went viral. We got a lot of inspirations from them. Not as a coder perspective but to watch non-coders use Cursor for tasks like data visualization, video-to-audio conversion, or batch file processing was eye-opening. They didn’t care about the code editor—just clicked "ACCEPT" and moved on. Code was just a means to an end.
That sparked an idea: what if we built a tool like Cursor's right panel, but cloud-based, and asynchronous? A system where you assign tasks and walk away, no endless clicks needed. That’s how Manus was born.

Before Manus, we built monica.im to integrate AI into websites—a decent success but limited as a browser extension. Then came Rift: our AI browser project. After 7 months (March–October), it was ready, promo video and all 🥲. But we never release it. Even those efforts means a lot to a small startup like us but we found out the experience of AI controlling your browser feels... off. AI is great at browsing, but it should stick to its own sandbox, not hijack yours.

We’ve just returned to Singapore after a packed few weeks in the US. We had the chance to sit down with the founders and leaders of iconic US companies, our Manus colleagues and, most importantly, many Manus users!
Lots of highlights - I wanted to note just a few:
- We learned so much from having face-to-face conversations with our users. Practical discussions about what’s working, what’s not and where to take Manus next.
- We announced our exciting image generation feature, which is enabled by our partnership with Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry. We can’t wait to bring more to our global users through our work together.
- We deepened our relationship with Anthropic, who have been a brilliant partner to Manus from the beginning, allowing us to bring smarter AI to our users.
- We made further progress on making Manus as fast as possible through our collaboration with Google, who have been another key partner for Manus since launching.
