1885, a restored and colourized photo of the Christ Church at Kasauli! Christ Church in Kasauli is the oldest church in Himachal Pradesh, inaugurated on July 24, 1853, and renowned for its striking neo-Gothic architecture and colonial legacy. The town of Kasauli was established as a British colonial hill station and military outpost in 1842 to escape the scorching heat of the plains. Originally known as the Anglican Church (or the Church of England), it was managed by British authorities until 1970 when it came under the authority of the Church of North India (CNI) and is currently managed by the Diocese of Amritsar. Built in a classic cruciform (cross-shaped) floor plan, the structure exemplifies neo-Gothic architecture characterized by tall spires and pointed arches. It features an eye-catching clock tower complete with a front sundial, stone walls, and rustic wooden pews. The interior is illuminated by vibrant stained glass windows imported directly from England, depicting religious scenes including the Crucifixion flanked by Joseph and Mary. The church exterior is embraced by a tranquil grove of chestnut, fir, and deodar trees, alongside a historic cemetery containing graves and tombstones dating back to the 1850s and earlier. Situated prominently near the Mall Road and bus stand area, it serves as Kasauli’s prime heritage landmark, welcoming visitors of all faiths and appearing in several Bollywood film backdrops over the decades. #Kasauli #church #history @himachal_queen @atrivedi21

💙 Tso Moriri — Ladakh 🏔️ Hidden in the remote Changthang Plateau, Tso Moriri is one of Ladakh’s most beautiful high-altitude lakes, located at around 4,500 metres above sea level. Stretching nearly 28 km, its crystal-clear blue waters are surrounded by barren mountains and vast Himalayan landscapes. 🌊 Interesting facts: • One of the largest high-altitude lakes entirely within India. • Part of the Tso Moriri Wetland Conservation Reserve. • Home to Black-necked Cranes, Bar-headed Geese and Kiang. 🐦 • Korzok Village lies on its western shore. Remote, peaceful and wild — Tso Moriri is Ladakh at its rawest. ❤️ 📷 Nishchay Bharati Jain || VanLife🇮🇳
