A good article on an important local topic, but a couple of corrections are needed. Puget Sound salmon recovery is getting eaten alive, literally. California sea lions do not belong here at all. Tribes have always called out California sea lions as invasive here. They culled them historically to protect runs. Now post-MMPA populations exploded and they're feasting on smolts at river mouths. Resident orcas don't ONLY eat Chinook, they adapt (chum, coho, halibut too) but still starve without enough salmon. Bipartisan bills + tribes/WDFW want targeted management.
