The High Sheriff of Shropshire is the Queen's representative in the County for all matters relating to the Judiciary and the maintenance of law and order.
Today I perform my final duty by handing over to my successor Selina Graham, to whom I wish the very best of luck. It has been a privilege to serve as High Sheriff of Shropshire for the past year. I have met many wonderful people and been warmly welcomed everywhere. Thank you.
I attended the seventh annual Armed Forces Match Day at Shrewsbury Town. There was a tour of the military fan park, a chance to chat to representatives of the many military charities present and to watch the match – sadly Town lost to Oxford 2-1 but you can't have it all!
#Tourism is so important to Shropshire’s economy and there have been great strides over the past year to provide a more co-ordinated approach.
I attended a meeting at Theatre Severn to discuss the county’s new Destination Tourist Management Plan. A
step in the right direction.
I visited #Ironbridge to see the aftermath of last week’s #floods and was so impressed by the response of the community and @TelfordWrekin. I joined @ShropLieut Anna Turner, Telford & Wrekin Mayor Amrik Jhawar, local council member @CarolynHealy and highways chief Adam Brookes.
Clare and I visited Wolverhampton Crown Court, where we sat in at the start of a murder trial.
Our Judiciary system is vital to our safety. With 85,000 prisoners, of whom over 65 per cent are repeat offenders, the courts are kept busy! Thanks to the judges for their hospitality.
Today is #ShropshireDay, a day we should be celebrating all things #Shropshire. Currently many areas of Shropshire are under water and residents and businesses displaced. No celebrations today, just continued efforts to support those affected. @ShropCouncil
Put up the flags – literally. Today is Shropshire Day. It is a chance to show how much we love this wonderful county with its stunning landscape, charming market towns, pretty villages and rich history.@Shropcouncil who will be leading the way in marking this proud day.
As severe #flooding hits parts of Shropshire, please stay safe and heed warnings from the authorities to steer clear of badly affected areas, particularly near the Severn. Several people have already been rescued by the emergency services who are, as ever, doing a fantastic job.
I spoke to an online gala to celebrate #ChineseNewYear. More than 200 people took part, including a VIP from @ChineseEmbinUK.
We celebrated Chinese culture including song, dance and art. I was invited by Grace Tong, director of The Chinese Arts and Culture Centre, in Telford.
Clare and I attended University Centre Shrewsbury’s graduation ceremony at St. Chad's Church. Congratulations to the 200 graduates who received their degrees from Chancellor, Dr Gyles Brandreth. Honorary degrees were awarded to Nick Owen of @bbcmtd and Lady Ffion Hague.
Many thanks to Sgt Richard Jones and PC Rob Hughes (pictured) of @TelfordCops who hosted my wife Clare and I. Rob took us on patrol. It made me appreciate, once again, just what a wonderful job our police do tackling crimes like #CountyLines which so often target the vulnerable.
My wife Clare and I went out on patrol with Shrewsbury Police, looked after by Sergeant Gary Lansdale and Constables Chloe Spiers and Caitlin Duncan. Easy to take the police for granted. Thank you @CCPippaMills and your force for the work you all do in trying to keep us safe.
My wife Clare and I attended a Festal Evensong celebrating @Jubilee_Pageant, a wonderful tribute to our beloved monarch at @HFDCCathedral. I was honoured to join those chosen to read who also included @roystrong.
A collection was in aid of @QGCanopy
Congratulations to @WrekinRowers on completing the #TaliskerWhiskeyAtlanticChallenge.
Stuart Shepherd, Martin Skehan, and brothers Gary and Stuart Richards, arrived at the finish in Antigua after 40 days at sea, raising £105,000 for charity. Shropshire is so proud of you.
I am with @CCPippaMills and ACC Julian Moss and his wife, in Worcester Cathedral. We were at the Worcestershire Shrieval Service, hosted by @Highsheriffwor1 Richard Amphlett. My wife Clare and I attended with other High Sheriffs, judges and civic leaders. A superb occasion!
The stabbing to death of 12-year-old #AvaWhite in Liverpool is heart-breaking. So, I wish every success to Steer Clear, an initiative by Shrewsbury police to tackle the culture of teenagers carrying knives. I am pictured with Constables Becky McLean and Jess Hindley.
I switched on the #Christmas Lights for the parish of Rodington last night. Pupils from St Lucia’s Primary School at Upton Magna led us all in singing carols.
The event, organised by @ParishRodington, supported @StayTelford, a charity doing great work to help the homeless.
I was guest speaker at the 72nd AGM of @ShropsALC, along with Sue Baxter, chairman of @NALC.
I spoke of my determination to champion the whole county, not just the great and good but those who need help or have been left behind. Community spirit never felt more important.
I attended the 50th Annual General Meeting and Luncheon of the High Sheriffs Association’ of England and Wales. Venue was Goldsmiths Hall in London and guest speaker was the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Burnett of Maldon.
