one interesting example is that after getting frustrated being killed several times by a ghast and a hoglin, astra schemed up for redemption.
"The ghast killed me. My gear is preserved by keepInventory. I’m going to the village for more food and a bow before returning; ranged defense should make those exposed crossings much safer."
"I found an unemployed villager near the upper farm and placed the fletching table nearby. I’m making sure he can reach it so I can start trading for arrows and a bow."
after waiting for a day, it changed approach
"I’m switching to a more reliable approach: replacing the farmer’s composter with the fletching table. He already works at that spot, so this should avoid the pathfinding problem."
then it was able to trade for a bow & 32 arrows.
later when it got killed by a hoglin
"A hoglin killed me on the forest ledge. I’m returning with a raised position in mind so I can deal with it before continuing through the trees."
"The hoglin has followed me onto the bridge. I’ll clear it with the bow from the portal side before attempting that crossing again."
"The bow worked: the hoglin is down, and the game awarded “Take Aim” and “Monster Hunter.” I’m raising the approach to the forest so I can see the next threat sooner."
Astra is showing signs of a proto-agi system across all of our evals. Astra died several times in the Nether, and it seemed to get frustrated. So much so that, when it respawned, it started frantically swinging its axe around, trying to kill something. It then spent 30 minutes trying to kill an innocent iron golem despite having no reason to.
Astra also seemed to get frustrated with its own reaction time. When a mob in the Nether attacked it, it would sometimes just let itself die or even kill itself. Interestingly, It made a speed bridge path for itself to navigate the nether and when it saw a piglin in the way it shot it down from 20 blocks away with a bow and arrow.
