When I Slow Down, I Start to See

Life gets busy. Really busy, especially as a mom of four.

That’s a big reason why I go out and take pictures. It forces me to slow down and actually look around, even on days that feel nonstop. When I do, I’m reminded of how much beauty surrounds us when we take the time to notice it.

Spending time outside in nature has become something I love doing with my kids. We’ll be out playing and they will stop to point things out to me. A pretty leaf, a cool insect, or a neat mushroom. Things I might have missed if I were on my own.

They remind me to slow down.

Photography has become something meditative for me. When I’m focused on taking a picture, everything else fades out.

Nature does not hurry. It does not try to impress anyone. It simply exists.

Taking pictures reminds me that life is not always asking us to move faster. Sometimes it is asking us to slow down, look around, and appreciate what is already in front of us. Especially the moments we get to share with our kids.

When was the last time you slowed down and noticed the beauty of nature? 🌿
