The beauty of Jackie Brown is that when you watch it you feel like you’re hanging out with those characters, in a way that you don’t with Tarantino’s first two films. That’s what sets Jackie Brown apart. That’s why it holds up so well.
The Burbs is, of course, Tom Hanks’ best film. When you first saw it, didn’t you just want to live on that street? One of Joe Dante’s best. AND Carrie Fisher’s in it. What’s not to love?
Tom Hanks is such a good actor. I could watch him in anything. Even if he was on his own stranded on a desert island with no other actors, he would still be entirely watchable. He is that good.
When Michael Myers sits up in the background behind Laurie in John Carpenter’s Halloween it is without doubt the single greatest shot in the history of horror cinema. Imagine seeing that for the first time in 1978 when the film was released. The most iconic moment in horror.
Emma Willis is brilliant. She always has been. It’s her first time hosting the biggest gig on tv and she makes it look effortless. You’d think she’d been hosting this show since the very beginning. An absolute masterclass. #Strictly
How can anyone say The Godfather Part II is the greatest sequel ever made when Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Crocodile Dundee II and Fright Night Part 2 exist? It’s all subjective but those 3 sequels are ALL excellent.
Superman II is STILL the second best Superman movie ever made (after Superman 1978 of course) and Terence Stamp’s General Zod is STILL the greatest villain. Gene Hackman’s Lex Luthor transcends. His is probably the greatest performance ever in a superhero film.
A proposed new Halloween sequel which takes place in the 70s immediately after the first movie but DOESN’T feature Laurie Strode is an excellent idea. It’s perhaps the way they should’ve gone with Halloween 2018. Halloween 4 proved it can be done.
When Jack Lowden is announced as the next James Bond, I hope he’s allowed to bring some of the fun back to the role. Since Casino Royale (undoubtedly Craig’s best) the franchise has taken itself way too seriously. The humour he brings to Slow Horses is exactly what’s needed.
The best Halloween sequel:
Halloween II (1981).
The best A Nightmare On Elm Street sequel: A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.
The best Friday The 13th sequel: The Final Chapter (Part IV).
The numbers don’t lie.
The Thing is not only John Carpenter’s masterpiece, it’s the greatest sci-fi horror movie ever made. As great as Alien is (and it is great), it’s in second place. It does make for a wonderful double feature though.
I’ve watched A View To A Kill twice lately. That film gets way too much hate. With the exception of GoldenEye (one of the very best Bonds) it’s better than every other Brosnan entry in the franchise. Christopher Walken’s in it for goodness sake!
If you haven’t got round to watching Widow’s Bay yet, you really should. It’s so good. Look out for Episode 8: Your Baggage. It’s a big homage to John Carpenter’s Halloween. One for all my fellow horror nuts out there. Enjoy.
Halloween II (1981) isn’t just the best Halloween sequel, I think it might just be the best horror movie sequel of all time. Special mention of course for Halloween III: Season of the Witch.
