Sakale participated in the course “Starting Small-Scale Food Processing Enterprises in the Millets Value Chain for Women and Youth”, held from 11 February to 2 March 2024 at ICRISAT Headquarters in India. We are proud to see our alumni turning knowledge and training into meaningful opportunities in agriculture and entrepreneurship. Her achievement is a testament to the potential of investing in women and youth and highlights the value of capacity-building programmes in enabling new opportunities across agricultural value chains. ICRISAT at #CGIARScalingWeek! 🌍 @CGIAR Chief Scientist Dr Sandra Milach shares the story of transformation in Bundelkhand, India, where ICRISAT's integrated watershed approach has helped restore degraded landscapes, recharge groundwater, expand cultivation and strengthen community resilience. During her recent visit to Bundelkhand, Dr Sandra visited project sites and interacted with farmers and communities to learn first-hand about the impact of landscape restoration and how these interventions are transforming lives. Bundelkhand offers a compelling example of why scaling matters: when a solution works, its impact should not stop where it started. Scaling means taking proven approaches further — reaching more communities, restoring more landscapes and creating greater impact.

On 21st September 2026, ICRISAT successfully conducted a Capacity-Building Training Programme of Farmers on Improved Crop Production Practices and Post-Harvest Management of Pigeonpea in Odisha, under the project titled “Knowledge-Driven Seed System Development through Targeted Seed Production and Varietal Dissemination of Pigeonpea and Blackgram in India.” The training was facilitated by senior scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nabarangpur, with the support and participation of Department of Agriculture (DoA) officials, the Hon’ble Sarpanch, Panchayat Samiti (PS) Member, Centre for Youth and Social Development (CYSD) and ICRISAT. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 170 participants, making it a successful platform for strengthening farmers’ knowledge and skills in improved seed production, quality seed management and varietal dissemination of pigeonpea.

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Dr Mohammed Reshmi Jahan, an ICRISAT PhD research scholar, who has been awarded the prestigious Sri Mandava Venkataramaiah Gold Medal for the Best PhD Research Thesis by Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (@angrau_ap). The award was presented at ANGRAU’s 58th Annual Convocation, held on 25 July 2026, recognizing her exceptional doctoral research titled “Mapping QTLs and Mining Candidate Genes for Foliar Blast Resistance in Pearl Millet.” Working under the supervision of Dr Rakesh K. Srivastava (@rakesh4cicer), Principal Scientist and Global Chickpea Breeding Lead, ICRISAT, Dr Reshmi’s research identified genomic regions and candidate genes associated with foliar blast resistance in pearl millet—generating valuable insights and breeding resources to support the development of blast-resistant cultivars. The Gold Medal and Certificate of Merit were presented by Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI), New Delhi, in the presence of Dr P.V. Satyanarayana, Vice-Chancellor, ANGRAU.

I attended the Dryland Congress 2026 in New Delhi and participated in the Special South-South Cooperation Segment, commemorating the @UN Day for South-South Cooperation. My key takeaways from the discussions: 1. From voice to solutions: The Global South must move from shared concerns to practical, scalable solutions. 2. Sharing, not prescribing: South-South Cooperation should be guided by partner-country priorities, national ownership and mutual learning. 3. From knowledge to scale: Institutions such as RIS and DAKSHIN can help connect evidence, institutions and successful development experiences. 4. From solutions to delivery: Scaling innovation requires stronger partnerships, market access and integration into value chains.
