330 days ago, I started what I thought to be an impossible task. 330 days and 98,000 words later, I now have my very first monograph that I submitted today. A massive thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey so far. On to the next stage … the horrors of reviewer 2!
(Only a tiny bit late) Very pleased to share that Rereading Musicians and Their Audiences is out now via @BloomsburyMus. it includes my chapter on Amy Winehouse (who else?!), and I'm in great company. So looking forward to dipping in and reading the work of my fellow contributors
Now everything is signed, and it's (kind of!) sunk in, I'm very pleased to say that I have a contract with Lexington to publish my first monograph. I'm so excited to be working with @jtepperlex to bring this to fruition.
A couple of other thoughts circulating recently *gestures wildly at the world on fire*:
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
"When words fail, music speaks" (with the help of a judicious edit)

This is a deeply specific response, but it's also pretty accurate albeit not in age. Jamie Bell (in All of Us Strangers) and Pauline Quirke. Jamie looks so like my (now late) dad circa the 80s, I had to pause the film and take a minute.
Belated post here but very pleased to be part of this collection. You can find me discussing theatricality and excess in Across the Universe along with other fantastic new work. Out now in HB.
She’s here! I’m so incredibly proud to have received my contributor’s copy of this fantastic collection. Huge thanks to Alexia and Adele for their guidance and support to make my chapter on The Piano the best it could be. This is a real academic bucket list moment!
Also a secondary shout out to @CinemaSolace13 for this lovely little edit that brings together Aftersun and Empire of Light. It's also a very accurate representation of me when I saw it for the first time! youtube.com/watch?v=aiUXcsYI…
Vale, Burt. Thank you for everything. I can think of no better way to honour you than to play this again. The perfect fit of song and singer. youtube.com/watch?v=-XYBj0J9…
The time has come (yes, I can still recite all the spells). Anyone surprised by what a hit this was and the life it’s attained underestimates the value of teenage girls and the power of something that validates their feelings
Angelina Jolie will star in Oscar-nominated director Pablo Larraín’s next movie, a biopic about famous opera singer Maria Callas.
