I have had many ups and downs of the year. But to survive and thrive in the markets, you need to have guts and be persistent. You will be rewarded. My journey so far:
2023: just graduated from high school and started my first job as an academic tutor. put around $1000 into my phantom account, got lucky and it turned to $20,000. This was all unrealized and I shortly lost it all.
2024: My portfolio hit $40,000. This was when I was heavy into
$TSLA and
$MSTR. These stocks boomed and reached ATH the months leading up to Trump's victory as 47th POTUS.
2025: Lost 75% of my portfolio to call options and playing leverage on
$BTC. I was doing so well. 40k at 20 years old but got too greedy. I wanted to reach 100k quickly that I lost sight of what mattered most: doing proper due diligence on stocks and being patient.
2026: Learnt concept of "buy into strength, sell into weakness". Took a $20,000 loan from the bank and promised myself to use it wisely and not go bust. Many would say this is stupid but I believe in myself. I am young and willing to take risks. Bought $2000 worth of
$DELL options and it turned into $25,000. This time, I did not get too greedy and sold for realised gains.
My portfolio reached ATH of $50,000. Then came June/July. My portfolio was comprised of high beta stocks ($AMKR
$VPG $NBIS to name a few) and I went down 50%. This was unfortunate and once in a lifetime sort of sell off. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs both said it was the worst momentum sell-off in the history of the stock market. Due to risk management and "selling into weakness", I did not go bust (thank goodness) but I learnt some important lessons.
Now I have $25,000 to my name ($22,000 in my IBKR and $3,000 in my savings account). Due to recent volatility, I sold my positions once I am sitting almost 100% in cash. I will be smart, do proper due diligence and buy into strength once market stabilise.
I love the markets! It's all I think about. Due to such passion, I was able to study finance at Wharton, something I am grateful for. I am no longer in the States though.
Follow me along the journey. I will be completely transparent and plan on sharing my insights. I want to be as active as possible and grow my account over the coming years.
I know this has been a long post but I am in a state of flow right now haha and just writing what is on my mind right now. Thanks for those who stayed and read the entire piece.
