Family, I’m hitting the road and heading to Tampa, Florida (10hr drive), to attend The Mighty 25 Awards Gala, and I’m truly honored that I have been selected as one of this year’s Mighty 25 honorees. On November 20, 2015, Islamist militants stormed the Radisson Blu Hotel in Mali, taking roughly 170 hostages and killing 20 people. Kyle Morgan, a Delta Force operator then serving as a special operations advisor at the US Embassy, received word of the attack and of Americans trapped inside. He moved toward the hotel, linked up with a small group of US personnel, and helped enter the building under fire, smoke, and grenade blasts to locate and extract hostages floor by floor. Morgan later described kicking through doors into a smoke-filled conference room to pull out a man who was barely hanging on, then fighting through a stairwell contact where he came face-to-face with the attackers. He stayed until he accounted for the last American he was looking for. For his actions that day he received the Distinguished Service Cross, the Army’s second-highest award for valor. He has said it was the longest day of his life and the reason he was there. The years after Mali brought a different fight: concussions, PTSD, addiction, and a near-fatal overdose. Morgan has been open that the hardest rescue was his own. He credits faith and sobriety with rebuilding his family and now leads Blu Bearing Solutions, teaching a protector mindset to law enforcement and civilians.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars are pouring in for 81-year-old Donald Johnson after the internet found out he was working 14-hour days to help pay for his wife's cancer treatment. For the past three years, Johnson has delivered lost luggage after struggling to find other work to cover their bills, all while helping care for Josephine, his wife of 57 years. Then a North Texas resident saw him struggling with the bags and decided to step in, launching a GoFundMe to help with the couple's medical bills and give Johnson a chance to finally retire. Now, strangers have raised more than $270,000 for the couple. Johnson says the support could finally let him put down the luggage and spend more time where he wants to be: by his wife's side.

When you listen to an expert, what is not said is as important as what is said. Here are 5 things not said. 1: Mr. Garrett said Nolan locked his phone last at 2:18 PM. He DID NOT say anyone unlocked Nolan’s phone from that time until when his parents received it. He would have if there was proof of it. 2: Mr. Garrett claimed Snapchat data was deleted off of Nolan’s phone. He DID NOT say what was deleted, exactly when it was deleted, who deleted it, or how they deleted it. Point 1 would certainly suggest not through the use of Nolan’s device, itself (if at all). My appreciation is that someone who sends a “Snap” can manually retract it for both parties (and that this is commonplace/not remotely nefarious). 3: Mr. Garrett said there were messages coming into Nolan’s phone at the time the Triton boat was experiencing a bilge pump issue. He DID NOT say Nolan was on the boat at the time. (No one has ever denied that Nolan’s phone was on the Triton at the time of the Sea Tow call from the Triton. It was left there with several other phones according to witnesses. Every single witness has denied he was on either the Triton, or my client’s Tideline, when they departed. Both photographic and video evidence confirm.) 4: Mr. Garrett said Nolan’s phone continued receiving group messages after the friends departed and after Mr. Wells’ died. He DID NOT say any of these messages were incriminating. You can guaran-DAMN-tee that if there was anything, they would have pointed it out. 5: Mr. Garrett said he was not invited to give grand jury testimony. He DID NOT mention that the legal team that hired him was invited to submit witnesses. That same legal team said they didn’t have any germane to the criminal investigation according to letters produced by the DA and the grand jury’s own report. The grand jury had the information Mr. Garrett sent to the District Attorney. They still said there was “no credible evidence” of a crime. Not “insufficient.” “No credible evidence.” Mr. Crump is now purposefully or recklessly creating false impressions that are putting the lives of my client and a small group of other friends of Nolan in danger.

Nicholas Irving, aka “The Reaper,” the former 75th Ranger Regiment sniper we’ve covered before, made headlines in 2019 for something other than his military record. A would-be robber decided to target him, and that choice backfired badly. Irving later described the incident himself in characteristically straightforward fashion: “Someone attempted to rob me, but didn’t work out in his favor.” He noted that while he was fully within his legal rights to use deadly force to protect his property and person, he opted instead for “a little hand work.” He closed with a nod to the Second Amendment, Texas, and the rapid arrival of law enforcement, adding that the robber clearly hadn’t bothered to read his book. A man who tallied 33 confirmed kills on a single deployment, one of the most lethal snipers the Ranger Regiment ever produced, was randomly selected by someone who had no clue who he was confronting. Irving could have legally ended the threat with a weapon. He chose not to. That decision to use his hands instead of lethal force reveals as much about him as the encounter itself. One less statistic, in his own words. Some people simply pick the wrong guy.

When a pit bull kills a kid, we exterminate them. Theres no judgment behind it: we know it’s an impulse they couldn’t control. But we also recognize that if your impulses lead to you killing kids, you need to be removed from society. Judgment aside, you just cannot be trusted and you need to be locked away forever. As a parent…if you kill your kids, your life is over anyway, so IDK what we are doing here.
