Me and the novel sized twitter posts these days huh?
A.I. and it's place in the creative world is going to be controversial. The rabbit hole that is A.I. goes extremely deep, to near conspiracy levels. Which is why I'm only going to talk about A.I. in relation to ROBLOX.
ROBLOX wants to be an innovator, they want to be at the forefront of any promising trend... something that reflects in their decision making for the platforms direction. They want to be everything, all at once, which means going all in on red. Even if it's a 1 out of a decillions chance.
Much like Facebook, and Nintendo, companies that use to strive off of making innovative advancements in their industries... before becoming horribly complacent, in addition to evolving as poster children of comedically evil / anti-consumer corporations, (wake the fuck up samurai...) ROBLOX aims to follow in the footsteps of these companies.
The "Metaverse" is a prime example of this, ROBLOX saw Facebook take a step in a new direction, and shoved it down our throats as a result... A.I. is no different. The only exception here is A.I. is not a trend...
A.I. is a market, one that governments, and corporations have invested an ABYSMAL amount of money into to produce. Something that could have been seen as conceptually: a beneficial assistance tool (treadmill work for programmers, placeholder art for developers, things similar to photoshop filters etc etc.) A market so large that if it were to fail, it very well could be global. (I am no expert here, I recommend doing your own research into "The A.I. bubble.")
This has turned into something weaponized as a replacement for people in the industry. Vibe coding, A.I. generated models, textures, artwork, the list goes on and such. ROBLOX wants in on this market, and want's to be a leader in that market... as already established. Most kids on the ROBLOX platform won't even guess that a game is made with A.I. and for the most part will not care.
This is essentially Planck's Principle (
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planck…) in action, without all the nuances of science...
A vast majority of children don't even actively engage in social media news to a level they would know a game has become controversial. So A.I. on ROBLOX, is going to be the same as A.I. on YouTube, (look at me never being able to shut up about how ROBLOX is just the YouTube of video games.)
ROBLOX is actively developing these tools with this in mind, which means the use of A.I. on the platform is inevitable, and going to be nigh unavoidable in the future. Does that mean we should be happy with that, and just say "who cares?" No, absolutely not.
ROBLOX is another corporation in a sea of them:
One that will do anything it sees fit in the name of innovation. Even if it's a gamble they could lose.
On a rather unrelated note:
If we want change, we can not lead that change with hate. If we want change, it has to be done together. Be assertive, but not hateful... if people are misinformed, inform them. Do not maul them, do not patronize them... if you do that than the message you're trying to send will forever have a negative connotation to it. Association with your goals become bleak.
Though that's just me rambling, and I talk to myself in the dark... so.
A lot of people are missing my point.
My point is there’s so many games that use AI but don’t say they do because they know it’ll cause backlash. Some even publicly denounce it only to use it in private. (There’s a lot of performative people on this platform)
Like Roblox literally announced two days ago MM2 is 40% AI coded now.
Do I like it? No. I’ve recently had conversations with Roblox regarding AI usage and its negative effects on the platform. But I’m not going to pretend MM2 isn’t a fun game even if it’s almost half programmed by AI now.
I had a fun time playing Mini War. So I voted for it. I don’t personally enjoy tower defense games so I didn’t vote for them. I also didn’t even know Mini War used AI until everyone jumped me afterwards for voting for it.
So if you’re going to disqualify games from winning awards because of AI usage, you’d probably need to disqualify most of the games even nominated. That was my point.
