Some personal news: Last month, while Davis and I were taking in the beauty of Banff National Park, we decided to nix our original engagement plans, buy cheap rings at a shop in Banff, and propose to one another at Lake Louise. It was unplanned and intimate and perfect ❤️
Hello everyone (anyone?). I had a paper accepted at AJPH today that I am very excited about, so I am sharing it here. In this work, we outline the legacies of misogyny and racism in contraceptive science & medicine that have led to this moment of mistrust among young women.
I’m excited to share that I’m joining the Department of Psychology at Villanova University as an Assistant Teaching Professor! I will spend the rest of my career repaying the kindness I received as a student at @VillanovaU to my students. I’m thrilled to return home! 💙
Not around here much these days, but last week marked 10 years since my mother died from ALS. This April, I am running the Big Sur International Marathon to fundraise for the ALS Therapy Development Institute. Please consider donating if you can.

ALS has no known cure. There are a few treatments available to slow the progression of the illness, but there is no way to reverse the damage to motor neurons. Even with medications to slow the illness, my mother lived for two years after being diagnosed. Every donation matters.
What an exciting year it has been! Last week, I joined the team at the @unccharlotte Violence Prevention Center, where I will be working as a Clinical Research Specialist through summer 2026. I'll also be back at @SDSU in the spring to teach my gigantic Psych of Sex course! Yay!

Today, I was lucky enough to receive an Advance Reader Copy of Becca Rea-Tucker's "The Abortion Companion: An Affirming Handbook for Your Choice and Your Journey." I had hoped to finish it by the end of October, but I read it in a single sitting today because I just loved it!
🧵
As an author, Becca is your cool and supportive big sister, there to affirm your decision, correct common misperceptions grounded in stigma, and guide you through the process from beginning to end. I wanted to sit down with her over a bottle of wine and a big slice of cake.
In the early pages of the book, Becca writes that she hopes that this will be a book that gets passed around as people consider and have abortions. Given how common abortion is, it seems like a book that everyone should have on their bookshelf. I really can't recommend it enough.

Hello! A student is hoping to learn more about doulas and what it’s like to be/become one. Do I have anyone in my network who is a doula or knows one who may be willing to speak with a student?
