Sergeant's Mess
You may have noticed I’ve been rather quiet on here of late. The reason is because I’m in the last year of submitting my PhD and it’s getting pretty full on. I will post occasionally but consider me generally out of action on here until 2027. See you on the other side – tally-ho!

The Luftwaffe didn’t just need better bombers - it kept trying to out-invent reality. By the time war actually started, Germany was still leaning on older bombers while the “future fleet” was barely ready. @TheRealDanSharp reveals all in Ep.76! buzzsprout.com/2327200/episo…

Allelulah. Reform UK has spoken. Two police officers killed on Saturday. Four days later we hear the first peep of sympathy or outrage. Was saying on @RestIsPolitics recording this morning how sickening was their silence and just how hard they find to praise or back the police. “I’ll believe Nigel ahead of the police any day” says 50p Lee. Can you imagine how loud they would have been if any of the five had been called Mohammed? The Farage riots would be well under way by now. So spare us your new found rage now Mr Yusuf
Seven people, including two police officers, died in the horrific Middlesbrough crash. We’re still learning the full details. Twelve people have been arrested in relation to organised crime and the crash. I have to point out, however, that 4 of the 5 people in the car driving the wrong way down the A66 - the car that killed the two police officers - had prior criminal convictions. In fact, they had 37 prior convictions between them. For drugs offences, stealing cars, racial abuse, assaulting police officers, and knife possession. It’s not clear that any has served a single day in prison. Two police officers are dead. PC Blades, a loved husband and father to two young boys. This year, he was going to coach his son’s football team. And PC Tom Clough, a former soldier who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. His family described him as “our hero.” I for one am angry. Angry at the gangsters, and yes also their minions, who terrorise the rest of us and get away with it. And angry at our leaders for failing us, and making our police officers’ lives a living hell. I promise you this. Reform UK will end this carnage. We will restore law and order in this country.

Is it normal to get drunk and when you get home spend your time watching model railway videos making notes for future layouts? Asking for a friend.

Decided to listen to the 1995 BBC radio adaptation of Len Deighton's novel "Bomber". Still so powerful. If you haven't listened to it, do so.

I'm seeing lots of Swordfish/Stringbag action on my feed which is reminding me that my favourite fact about the Swordfish is that legendary music producer Sir George Martin flew in them during the war. Good interview with Sir George here about it: youtu.be/a03C36pgvag?si=1Wn3…
