FORMAL REQUEST TO THE GOVERNMENT OF NORWAY 🇳🇴
@jonasgahrstore @EspenBarthEide @NorwayMFA @pcfrolich @Stortinget
We respectfully call on the Government of Norway to review and end the diplomatic accreditation of representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the status of its diplomatic mission in Oslo.
Under Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, Norway, as the receiving State, may at any time declare the head of mission or any member of the diplomatic staff persona non grata, without being required to explain its decision.
Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
@NorwayMFA, is responsible for relations with foreign diplomatic missions in Norway.
Its Section for Diplomatic Relations administers matters concerning foreign missions, their personnel, accreditation, privileges and diplomatic status.
We further respectfully request that Norway consider recognizing Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, or a duly constituted Iranian transitional authority under his leadership, as the legitimate authority competent to appoint Iran’s interim diplomatic representatives during a democratic transition.
Following such recognition, representatives duly appointed by that transitional authority could be received through Norway’s established agrément and accreditation procedures, consistent with Article 4 of the Vienna Convention.
This would provide a lawful path for transferring Iran’s diplomatic representation.
Under Article 45 of the Vienna Convention, if diplomatic relations are broken or the mission is recalled, Norway must respect and protect the mission’s premises, property and archives.
Iran’s diplomatic missions must represent Iran and its people, not the Islamic Republic.
