BREAKING: Iran is now preparing to completely shut the U.S. backed Omani route of the Strait of Hormuz, as Iran’s attacks involving oil, LNG and LPG tankers hit their highest weekly level since the war began, with at least 12 incidents recorded between September 28 and October 5, per Reuters.
IRGC adviser Mohammadreza Naqdi said Iran will soon block the “illegal routes” along Oman’s coast used by ships to bypass Iranian controlled waters, declaring that the Strait is already “closed” and under Iran’s full control.
The escalation comes as vessel traffic through the Strait has collapsed from around 125 ships per day before the war to roughly 10, while separate IMO data recorded nine vessel incidents during the same week. Reuters reports that the incidents included missile and drone attacks, attempted attacks, surveillance and radio warnings involving the IRGC.
