Bill C-22 makes Canada an untenable place for most tech companies to operate in, foreign and domestic. With trade uncertainty already hanging over the Canada-U.S. relationship, and a government that says it wants foreign investment, there has never been a better time to fix (delete) this misguided bill. It is in direct conflict with attracting the capital our government claims to want, and literally forces existing Canadian companies to take their taxable revenue elsewhere.

Great to see the Canadian tech industry push back against a bill that forces companies to weaken encryption and create honeypots of Canadian user data ripe for hackers! @Tailscale, @NordVPN, @Windscribe, and 20 other organizations published an open letter today, covered in @globeandmail, detailing key risks associated with Bill C-22. These include mandatory retention of sensitive user metadata, weakening of encryption, and forced compliance with secret government orders. For Canada, this bill must be amended to maintain business competitiveness at a time when the country needs it most.
