At PLOCAN, we believe innovation cannot be managed — it must be led by expertise. We advocate for a radical shift in Europe’s research governance: Independent Expert Councils with real self-governance, empowered ARPA-style Program Managers, and freedom to define scientific challenges beyond bureaucracy. This is the spirit Europe needs in the next Framework Programme (FP10) — agile, bottom-up, and driven by excellence. #Innovation #FP10 #BlueEconomy #ScienceDrivenPolicy #BottomUp

for years, better tech has meant more bloat, slower and less responsive websites and apps, confusing and confused interfaces weird how AI has continued that trend. real weird. not anymore.

I'm sick of these gatekeeper mathematicians acting as if they own math! He says humans need to understand math, but besides these privileged, self-centered people, how many humans actually understand it? As if they help teach it to everyone! This BS anti-AI attitude has to stop!
Fields Medalist who famously cried over OpenAI’s paper dump, refuses to use AI in his own research: “People that don’t want to use AI… they need to be able to practice their arts in the way they are doing it today.” the interviewer pushes back elsewhere: name one other field where we hold back technology that can already do the work, just for the sake of students. Hugo Duminil-Copin: “The human understanding of mathematics is the only thing that at the end benefits society. […] If the purpose of mathematics was purely getting as many results proved and lean formalized then […] you could even imagine a totally automatized version. […] You have a black box which is providing you the answer […] it gives you 42 but you have zero clue why.”

Yann LeCun, one of the world’s foremost AI, machine-learning and robotics researchers, an engineer, NYU professor and ACM Turing Award laureate, has been torn to pieces today by Elon Musk fans for daring to inject some reality into the Tesla Roadster debate. The objection isn’t that the technology isn’t impressive. It is how these capabilities are being marketed, with deposits being taken on the basis of what we’ve been shown. The physics remain the problem. A production car carrying enough compressed air to deliver those levels of thrust would face enormous compromises in weight, storage capacity and recharge requirements. At best, you’re looking at seconds of extreme thrust, followed by specialist recharging that can absolutely not be integrated into the car - literally impossible because of the weighty equipment needed & the energy required for that equipment to compress 600L of air for a few seconds of thrust. And let’s not forget that the Roadster 2.0 was announced in 2017. Nine years later, instead of finally putting that car on the road, we’re watching a new version of the same old story. This isn’t hate. It’s realism based on experience, engineering and physics. And when someone like @ylecun makes essentially the same observations, the response shouldn’t be “What have you ever achieved?” or "what do you know?" - sure, use that one on me, but not on Yann.
I'm definitely not anti-achievement and never criticized real achievements, including by Elon. I even own two Teslas. I do expose marketing stunts that, while cool on the surface, are not the achievements they are claimed to be. Compressed air thrusters might give you acceleration boosts in any direction. They might even make your car hover for a couple of seconds if you accept replacing the passenger seat by a 400 liter high-pressure air tank. But they are not a path to actual flying cars. The same way Burt Rutan's SpaceshipOne was never going to be a path to orbital flights (just bunny hops out of the atmosphere). I am anti-Musk when it comes to politics. His political actions, the massive dissemination of disinformation through X and other channels, and his support for authoritarian regimes and racist ideas have the effect of weakening democracy and weakening human decency and social progress around the world.

Delta, Chase and Amazon are blocking AI agents. The war on agents has begun, and here’s how it probably plays out: Stage 1: Companies block agents because agents skip the ads and upsells. Stage 2: Agents learn to act like humans, and it becomes an arms race. Stage 3: The market splits. Companies that make money on sales let agents in, companies that make money on data charge for access, and the giants build their own agents. Stage 4: A trusted middle layer for agent identity and payments becomes the standard way in. Stage 5: Companies that welcome agents start winning customers from the ones that block them. Stage 6: The agent blockers come back and let agents in on their own terms. Stage 7: Everyone starts competing for agents with better prices, faster checkout and SEO built for agents. Stage 8: The ads come back, and companies pay to be your agent’s first recommendation. Stage 9: The agent war ends, and selling to agents becomes as normal as having a website.

Companies I will boycott if they don’t reverse this ridiculous policy of restricting AI agents: - Delta: will avoid all flights - JPMorgan Chase/Charles Schwab: will close my Chase account - Yelp: already deleted - Amazon: hardest to boycott but will ask AI agents!

I’m French. 🇫🇷 And I’m tired of watching people confuse freedom with the freedom to destroy. You have the right to protest. You have the right to be angry. You have the right to demand change. You do NOT have the right to burn, loot or attack people. A Republic that protects the right to protest must also protect its citizens from violence. That’s not authoritarianism. That’s the rule of law.
