My take on the Cornell rape allegations. It’s a horrible situation, but not rape. Drinking and driving analogy.
…Bob and Tom go to a party. Early in the evening, Bob asks Tom for a ride home after the party and Tom agrees. As the night wears on, Bob and Tom are both drinking and Tom is noticeably intoxicated. Bob doesn’t care. He’s actually encouraging Tom to have another beer.
Tom starts to express concern about driving. “I’m not so sure this is a good idea.” Bob doesn’t care. He doesn’t want to crash on some stinky couch in the basement, he just wants to go home. He tells Tom, “You will be fine.” Tom is too tired to argue, so he agrees to drive.
On the way home they get pulled over and Tom is arrested for DUI. Later in court, Tom points to Bob and shouts, “It’s all his fault. He knew I was drunk and he encouraged me to drive anyway!”
The judge looks at Bob and tells him, “Tom is selfish and irresponsible. With friends like him, who needs enemies. But, you decided to drink. You decided to drive. This is your responsibility.”
