🧬 Creatine may change muscle before the first workout. Creatine is usually associated with athletes and intense workouts. But a recent study found something interesting: its effects may begin even before exercise starts. Adults taking just 5 grams of creatine monohydrate per day gained about 0.5 kg more lean body mass in only seven days compared with controls. But there is a catch. That early increase does not necessarily mean new muscle was built. Creatine draws more water into muscle cells, so part of the increase in measured lean mass may simply be extra water stored inside the muscles. Creatine also increases the energy available for short, intense efforts by helping muscles rapidly regenerate ATP. So while creatine alone may change lean body mass, the strongest evidence for improving real muscle growth and strength comes when it is combined with resistance training.
