Walking through Shehr-e-Khas, where Srinagar's oldest heart still beats beside the Jhelum, I found my way to the resting place of Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin, Budshah. The ruler who made Kashmir a cradle of art and learning left his imprint on every craft and courtyard. I paid my tribute and left with a feeling that history had not merely walked beside me; it had held me @MehboobaMufti #JKPDP #JammuAndKashmir #Kashmir #Jammu

Mehbooba Mufti pays tribute at Budshah's tomb in Shehr-e-Khas Srinagar. Oct 7: PDP president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday visited Shehr-e-Khas in downtown Srinagar and paid tribute at the tomb of Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin, popularly known as Budshah. Accompanied by senior party leader Naeem Akhtar, she walked through the old city's narrow lanes to reach the 15th-century ruler's resting place at Zaina Kadal, where she offered fateha and laid floral tributes. Budshah (1420-1470) is remembered as one of Kashmir's greatest rulers. He is credited with promoting religious tolerance and with bringing artisans from Persia and Central Asia, which strengthened crafts such as shawl weaving, woodcarving, and papier-mâché.

The first person who went against India was not Syed Ali Shah Geelani or Maqbool Bhat but Sheikh Abdullah himself. Way back in the 1950s, it was he who sowed the seeds of separatism among the people and then used it as a bargaining chip to blackmail Delhi that either he remains in power or Kashmir will not stay with India.
From 1947 till this day, whenever the NC is questioned about the crimes it inflicted on the people of Kashmir, it uses the accession with India as a shield & instantly brands you as anti-national. Let the facts be put straight today: the first person who went against India was not Syed Ali Shah Geelani or Maqbool Bhat, but Sheikh Abdullah himself. Way back in the 1950s, it was he who sowed the seeds of separatism among the people, and then used it as a bargaining chip to blackmail Delhi that either he remains in power, or Kashmir will not stay with India. Today, on the same old playbook, the NC ecosystem is telling Delhi that only they are Indians and the rest of Kashmir is anti-national. Here is a brief history of the contradictions of the Abdullah-led NC and how it used both Delhi and the people of Kashmir. 1) Isn't the very foundation of NC's politics rooted in anti-Hindu sentiment, when in 1931 Sheikh Abdullah mobilised Muslims against the Dogra Maharaja in the name of religion? 2) Didn't Sheikh Abdullah start backchannel contacts with Pakistan and the US for self-determination and independence just 7-8 years after J&K merged with India? 3) Isn't it a historical fact that NC backed the Plebiscite Front from 1953 to 1975? Wasn't that the first ever separatist movement against India? Wasn't Syed Ali Geelani himself a product of this Plebiscite Front politics? 4) Didn't NC use the state machinery in 1979 to crush its opponents — torturing religious people, burning the Quran, killing and disappearing people — and then sold the narrative that it was India that committed these crimes? 5) Didn't NC and Congress rob the public mandate in broad daylight in 1987? Didn't they torture, humiliate and terrorise those who dared to challenge them within the democratic mainstream, and then made people believe that it was India as a country doing this? 6) Didn't NC create the Ikhwan and use them to loot, rape and kill with impunity? Didn't they break our youth in torture cells and then sell the lie that Delhi did it? 7) Didn't Farooq Abdullah nurture the JKLF and use them when he felt he was losing his chair, to create fear in Delhi that if he is out of power, Kashmir will slip out of India's hands? 8) Didn't Farooq Abdullah in 2016 urge the Hurriyat leadership to continue the violent separatist movement and say, "We will never be free until we are united [against India], and I am asking NC workers not to stay away from the movement"? PS: This is just the tip of the iceberg. If a Truth and Reconciliation Commission is established and a postmortem of NC's politics is done, even the sky will weep at how they ruined Kashmir. They destroyed our past, mortgaged our future and are criminalising our present. They made Delhi suspicious of Kashmir and made Kashmiris suspicious of Delhi. For 75 years, Kashmiris paid the price in blood, in graves, in jails, in half-widows and orphans, while the Abdullah clan built palaces over our pain. The time has come to reclaim Kashmir for Kashmiris & re-engage with Delhi. We need a Messiah to do this.

Visited the old city of Maharaj Gunj today. Walking through it, I remembered my father’s last visit to Shere-Khass and felt him beside me. I was deeply moved to see how a passionate young entrepreneur, Iqbal Shah, has brought Kashmir’s heritage alive at AAbyari, recreating its beauty with remarkable artistic perfection. AAbyari is more than a space. It is a living testament to the revival and preservation of our art, craft and culture, and a reminder of the path Kashmir must take to rediscover its soul. Heritage is not merely what we inherit. It is what we keep alive.

So what ? Over the last ten years, the judiciary has repeatedly normalised acts that amount to contempt of court and simply moved on. Lofty observations are made in court, but when the time comes to deliver a judgement, the outcome is often entirely at odds with those very remarks.
So Gyanesh Kumar lied that Form 6 modification was approved by the Supreme Court. Check the press note by the ECI on 26th Sep.

Model Recruitment Rules (MRRs) for the Non-Gazetted cadre in all Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) of Jammu and Kashmir were to be notified by September 30, 2026. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, at the Civil Secretariat, in the backdrop of protests by employees of newly established GMCs over the non-availability of recruitment rules. Why has this commitment not been fulfilled yet? What is the reason for the delay, and who is responsible for it? @sakinaitoo @CM_JnK @OmarAbdullah

Since 1947, our voices have been choked. Today, I spoke for everyone who has been muted and silenced. I never expected Dr Farooq Abdullah Sahib to react like this, but then I understood. It was just an escape to avoid answering the people.

Omar Sahab has 42 MLAs, yet the question is what concrete relief has he secured for J&K. We had 28 MLAs in 2015 and still managed to put our agenda on the table and secure tangible measures. It was not an alliance of compromise but an alliance of courage, one in which PDP pursued its commitments: the ceasefire, withdrawal of FIRs against 14,000 first-time offenders and efforts to initiate dialogue with the separatist leadership. Today, despite not being in an alliance, NC is normalising the BJP’s position and it’s decision . That contrast deserves scrutiny. @MehboobaMufti

Mufti Sahib’s school of thought was clear: peace had to be built through dialogue, reconciliation and tangible confidence-building measures. Be it the opening of cross-LoC trade and travel in 2005 or the 2015 alliance, both delivered concrete results, including a month-long ceasefire, withdrawal of FIRs against 14,000 first-time young offenders, and convincing the Indian leadership to initiate dialogue with the separatist leadership. Sadly, a valuable opportunity was lost when the separatist leadership chose not to open its doors. NC and Congress have shared power in J&K through multiple alliances. What comparable, concrete breakthrough did they deliver on the peace process or reconciliation? That is the question worth answering, rather than questioning Mufti Sahib’s vision. @MehboobaMufti
