From a PR perspective, it's a bold move to do a protest like this. It works best when you're the underdog, but RocketLab has successfully been going to orbit for the last 8 years. Even if it was unfair to award this to Blue(we don't really know), it's a risky strategy imo
Rocket Lab has filed a formal protest with the Government Accountability Office challenging NASAβs award decision for the Mars Telecommunications Network.
NASAβs award decision appears to be inconsistent with the eligibility criteria mandated by Congress. In addition, the agencyβs punitive review of Rocket Lab's technical volume was inconsistent, making incorrect assertions and conclusions.
Procurement standards exist to ensure fair competition and protect public investment. We are pursuing this review to ensure those standards are upheld for critical infrastructure that will underpin American exploration at Mars for decades to come.

Iβm bummed out by how excited some folks get about missiles and killing machines. Theres a lot of cool tech involved, and I get why someone would be fascinated by these weapons, but many of the defense startups I see have a very cavalier attitude about what they do.
