Tens of thousands of people saw the competition, resolved to participate but didn't. You did! You're a champ for that! When it was looking like I wasn't going to get any of the winning spots, it was a bit discouraging, but you know what I did? I kept going... Went on to another challenge 😂 (cos I love creating!!!). We won telegram's $200,000 Digital Freedom competition But it's looking shady... and they're deleting people's messages 👀 here's the gist. Hundreds of contestants participated in Telegram's digital freedom contest. The evaluation criteria for the contest said low quality submissions would be discarded. [Virality was never mentioned there.] For weeks people asked whether virality was a judging criterion. They answered other questions. They never answered that one. The volunteer told us to focus on quality, and they didn’t correct them. So people did that. Spent real money on production, on shoots, on equipment, then a month later, they drop the results and now they say "The key criteria in this contest was virality – we did not request anything else" And get this… The #1 winner was a short clip with caption. 😵‍💫 [video in comments] Then all hell broke loose. Lots of creators felt deceived and used and started calling them out for it... Then they eventually start deleting messages and muting people😂😂... The irony ✨Digital Freedom✨ My read: if they had said virality upfront, most people wouldn't have bothered participating. Instead, the absolute most important factor was never emphasized, everything else was, everyone who asked didn’t get a reply, and they got a month of PR out of hundreds of creators. I don't know how involved @durov is in this. But from where I'm standing, it's shameful. A contest fighting government oppression, and this is how contestants get treated.
