Visiting Chernobyl was a powerful reminder of what is at stake in Ukraine. Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine has put lives, communities and even nuclear safety at risk. Britain has stood with Ukraine since the beginning, and that support must endure for as long as it is needed.

It is fantastic news that work will be starting this year on a step-free and modern South Kensington Tube Station. For years, this project was promised but never delivered. When I was elected two years ago, I made it a top priority. After years of delays, I brought together Ministers, TfL, Places for London and local stakeholders to get this project moving and over the line. It's taken a lot of work but I'm pleased residents of South Kensington will finally get the station the area needs.

An incredible turnout in Earl's Court last night, with hundreds of residents coming together to stand up against SilverTime's latest attempt to take over our high streets. I am determined that we will explore every possible avenue to stop this happening - thank you to the Earl's Court Society, @BiancaJagger and local councillors for joining together to say enough is enough. SilverTime wants to expand its gambling operation at a prominent 24/7 site on Earl’s Court Road, right opposite the tube station through which thousands of children commute every day and near to several places housing vulnerable residents. This is exactly why campaigns like this matter - and why I'm so pleased @AndyBurnham has committed to changing the law so that permissive 'Aim to Permit' gambling legislation is abolished, new Adult Gaming Centres have to go through the planning system, and cumulative impact of clustering will be considered. Our campaign has helped to secure these massive changes to Government policy - so thank you to everyone who supported it. London is a global city, but our governance structures have not kept pace with the challenges we face. I’m incredibly supportive of the Prime Minister’s Devolution agenda - and that should include London too. It’s team to revisit the London devolution settlement to help unlock growth, deliver more housing and tackle homelessness. I asked the First Secretary what she thought about this idea last week - and I’m glad she’s backing more powers for London.

We need to clean up our politics, and that includes lobbying. I'm pleased the Government is considering an open, central register to shine a light on lobbying activity. The summer of scandals that Reform have experienced on donations shows how much more there is to do to restore trust in politics, and this is an important part of it.

Companies registered in British Overseas Territories like the British Virgin Islands are regularly used to conceal ownership and shield individuals from proper scrutiny. The consequences are serious: money laundering, tax evasion, terrorist financing, human trafficking and other forms of organised crime can flourish where transparency is lacking. I’ve been campaigning for years for full public access to information about these shell companies - but now some of these territories are introducing so-called "legitimate interest tests". These are little more than a performative exercise, creating barriers to transparency without effectively preventing misuse. I’ll be working with the new Foreign Secretary and his team so we can finally get a solution.

Strong countries think strategically about investment at home and internationally to keep their people safe and secure. The Tories cut defence repeatedly, and this Government has been clear we will invest more to meet our NATO obligations, alongside the reforms needed domestically to get our country on the right track on housing, work and more.

The Conservative Party's new policy on reducing the Local Housing Allowance would destroy communities like ours in Kensington & Bayswater. It would increase homelessness, pile temporary accommodation costs onto our local authorities, and dramatically change our socio-economic make up. Instead of driving people out of London, we need to increase supply of social and genuinely affordable housing - and ensure our private rented sector is secure. The Government is acting on all of this - and I fully support the Social Housing Bill that passed through the House of Commons yesterday.

In my kitchen there is a jar of honey gifted to me by Phil Rosenberg, the President of the Board of Deputies, who insisted I take it home for my family, along with a bag of apples, because it would not be a proper new year otherwise. So let me begin the simple way: Shana tova u'metuka. A good and sweet new year to every Jewish family in Britain. The custom of dipping an apple in honey is one of the most hopeful things I know. It is not a claim that the year gone by was sweet. It is a decision that the year ahead should be. And I know that the year behind us has been anything but. Two Jewish men, Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby both of blessed memory, were murdered at the gates of Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in an antisemitic terror attack on Yom Kippur, defending their synagogue and those praying inside it. As Mayor of Greater Manchester, I felt first-hand the anxiety that attack caused across the Jewish community. The sorrow and fear of that day have not disappeared. As Yom Kippur approaches once again, I know many people will remember them and reflect on what that attack meant. So, this message has to be more than a greeting for the chaggim. It has to contain a commitment. Jewish people must be able to live, worship, go to school, attend synagogue and participate fully in British life without fear. That is why we are investing more than £250 million to increase policing, improve community safety and tackle rising antisemitism, bringing total government investment in Jewish security to almost £310 million. In recent days, the Housing Secretary and I have heard directly from Jewish community leaders about the challenges they face and the anxiety many families are experiencing as the High Holy Days approach. That is why we have established a Cabinet committee on antisemitism, bringing departments together to ensure our response is coordinated, comprehensive and sustained. But security is only one part of the response. We have to tackle antisemitism at its source. We are also investing £7 million to tackle antisemitism in schools, colleges and universities, including support for Jewish students, staff training and action to address misinformation and promote respectful discussion. And we are expanding the Common Ground programme to support communities facing the greatest risk of antisemitism and help local leaders respond when tensions rise. British Jews have helped build the schools, charities, businesses and institutions that make our country stronger. From the NHS and education to the arts, innovation and entrepreneurship, their contribution has enriched every part of our national life. The contribution the Jewish community makes to British life is remarkable- and we should celebrate it. This new year, my commitment is simple: to work every day to ensure that Jewish people are safe, valued and able to live their lives free from fear. May the year ahead be sweet, and may it be safe. Yesterday I spoke to Nicky Campbell about the Foreign Secretary's announcement on the latest action the government is taking in relation to the Israel-Palestine conflict. I would encourage anyone with an interest in this topic to also listen to the full speech from the Foreign Secretary in Parliament on Tuesday. I am a strong believer in a two state solution, and it is heartbreaking how far away that currently feels. In recent years, it has become increasingly clear that figures within the Israeli government and groups of extremist settlers in the West Bank are doing all they can to make the two-state solution impossible. For that reason, I welcome the ban on the trade in goods from illegal Israeli settlements, along with creating new designation powers to target individuals and companies that support, facilitate or profit from illegal settlement activity. I have long-advocated for this position and I am pleased that the Government is now taking decisive action alongside France, Canada, Spain and many other countries. Tuesday's announcement shows that Britain can and does have influence, and we should use that influence for good - to make a difference and to stand up for what we believe in. But there should also be no doubt - criticism of the Israeli government should never be conflated with attacks on British Jews. Holding Jewish people responsible for the actions of the Israeli Government is antisemitism, plain and simple. Antisemitism has absolutely no place in our society, and in Kensington & Bayswater - and London - we reject hate, fear and intimidation in all its forms - but I recognise how vulnerable many Jewish people have felt in recent years. I will continue to engage with our Jewish friends, neighbours and colleagues in Kensington & Bayswater and do everything I can to tackle antisemitism, while continuing to advocate for a viable two-state solution that delivers a lasting peace for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Good news for the regulation of short-term lets - the Prime Minister has specifically asked for faster Government action to help tackle abuse! Over the summer we've continued to see the challenges of short-term lets in our communities. My constituents in Kensington & Bayswater are fed up of being regularly subjected to antisocial behaviour, illegal subletting, and criminal activity including brothels. Since I was elected, I've been calling for a national register so we can properly monitor and regulate short-term lets. I raised this again in Parliament and I'm delighted that @LisaNandy confirmed that the short-term lets register will be fully in place by March - giving local councils a crucial tool they need to take action.
