My newest book, WE ARE MADE OF US, is now available for preorder. 🫶✍️
It’s about family dynamics, facing inherited trauma, and reclaiming motherland. It’s part memoir, part guide, and part hospital stories through my decade of chaplaincy.

What I learned in my counseling grad school this week:
“Ask rather than assume. Support rather than define.” Advocate without taking over.”
A perpetual danger in helping is assuming what others need. Imposing help isn’t help, it only feeds the ceaseless ego of the “helper.”
In case you forgot, ICE is still kidnapping over 1500 people per day and there are over 65,000 detained people including children in over 200 facilities.
Since 2024 over 400,000 people have been booked and there is $45 billion extra being given to ICE.
Never let this be normal.
The idea that every immigrant and minority needs to be hardworking and contributing, a pillar of their community, a parent or model citizen, to have a certain amount of years consistently living here,
is a soft eugenics and absurd exceptionalism that
only permits people to be human within manmade assigned borders.
God forbid they are angry, have a day off, suffer in their mental health, do not perfectly smile or cry, need help, make a mistake, or have an accent that’s only an accent to you.
It’s been almost a month since the flash floods in Nepal.
The death toll is at 1,451.
Over 6000 people are still missing.
Twelve power plants are destroyed.
Roads, bridges, homes are gone.
The force was greater than an atomic bomb.
I haven’t forgotten. Please don’t forget.
My six year old daughter has a garden and she woke up this morning to tell me,
“I had a dream that my plant grew pizza and avocados and hot cocoa and you ate them with me.”
I’m allergic to all those things.
She says, “In my dream you had no allergy. It was the best.” 🥲😭
Has anyone else been losing their filter in everyday life?
I used to be so polite and I’m still respectful, I’m just so exhausted because you know. All of this.
My two year old son was running in the playground and slipped on mud and flipped backwards on his head and I ran over as quickly as I could, got directly up to his face, and whispered in his ear,
“I’m not complicit. I care privately.”
Shout-out to my professor for using stock photos for her slides instead of AI. Never thought I’d miss seeing overly lit smiling people in empty boardrooms pointing at charts on easels.
Between classes I ate at a local eatery and found that it used an AI menu. Despite my distaste, I was in a rush so I ordered quickly, and:
I’m not sure how else to explain this but the food tasted like AI. Derivative and soulless and I had to use up a lot of water.
What I learned in my counseling grad school today:
“You are not the expert on someone else’s lived experience.”
Always remaining a student in the classroom of another’s story.
What I learned in my counseling grad school today:
“So many clients have lost hope and they hold onto ours until they can foster their own.”
Going to try to be a little bit of hope.
Going back to school today. Grad program to get my Master’s in Counseling. My hope to be both a therapist and a chaplain. Nervous and excited. 😭😊🙏🫶
Shout-out to my wife, who is 1000% supportive. We are each other’s biggest fans.
Apparently I am one of the oldest people in the class. Everyone was so kind, warm, welcoming. I’m hyped on Gen Z. Not a single phone out during orientation (just mine 🙃). I’m so glad and grateful I get to do this. It will be the busiest time but I know so many are alongside. ❤️🔥
