HOW ELON MUSK AND HIS BROTHER'S FIRST VACATION ALMOST TURNED INTO A TRAGEDY... AND HOW IS IT CONNECTED TO THE SUCCESS OF SPACEX? december 2000. Elon has just been pushed out as CEO of PayPal. he's 29, rich on paper, and for once he takes a break he flies to South Africa with his brother Kimbal. the bush, a safari, the place they grew up running around in Kimbal laughs about it now: "we'd go to the bush all the time. i don't think we ever took malaria tablets" this time they did. it didn't matter january 2001. Elon is back in California and something is badly wrong. doctors check for malaria. negative Kimbal: "i couldn't figure out what was wrong with him" then their uncle, a doctor in South Africa, says it straight: "he has malaria. check again" he was right. malaria hides in the body. and this was the deadly kind Elon: "i had a severe case of malaria. almost died" "i lost like 50 pounds" "took me over six months to get back to normal" and his lesson from all of it: "no more vacations" now the part that matters six months of recovery. no company to run. a guy who almost died at 29 starts asking one question: what do i do next? he checks NASA's website to see when humans are going to Mars. there's no plan. nothing so he flies to Moscow. to buy ICBMs. "literally" "i can afford to pay under nine million dollars for an ICBM. but not 20" the Russians keep raising the price. he walks out and instead of looking for a cheaper seller, he asks a different question: why are rockets so expensive in the first place? the metal, the fuel, the parts cost a small slice of the price tag. the rest is how the industry builds them so instead of buying a rocket, he decides to build one napkin math: the rocket he was willing to pay for: under $9M where the Russians were pushing: $20M+ his cut from the PayPal sale to eBay in 2002: ~$180M how much of it went into SpaceX: ~$100M SpaceX today: valued at $800B+ the company is now worth ~8,000x the money he put in the first three Falcon 1 launches failed. the fourth reached orbit in 2008. he's said there was money for basically one more try most people come back from almost dying and slow down. Elon came back and bet more than half of everything on the most expensive thing on earth a vacation almost killed him. the comeback built SpaceX
Future fun Roadster demos will include flying over the Snake River or maybe Grand Canyon and landing on its wheels and exceeding half the speed of sound

Exactly
Since I posted about using Grok Bot to buy things with my credit card, so many people have been asking whether it’s actually safe What’s actually strange to me is that for decades, people have been handing their credit cards to complete strangers at restaurants. Someone takes your card, walks away with it, swipes it through a machine, processes your payment, and brings it back And most people don’t even think twice about it We live in a digital world where software already handles enormous amounts of financial transactions every single day Tbh these days is actually more safer to let AI/SI do the shopping for you then you doing the shopping for you with AI/SI agents, you can sandbox them, give them limited permissions, and have them ask for your approval before making important decisions…. These days the latest models are really good at understanding the real world and they’re extremely cautious about the things that they do for you From what I’ve personally experienced with Grok Bot, it’s actually extraordinary how cautious it is when handling these tasks If something is expensive or really needs your attention, it simply pauses for a moment and asks you what you want to do. It gives you a few simple options, you choose what you want, and the final decision is still yours where you have to make And all of this happens without you having to go through the entire hassle of shopping yourself I’ve personally watched how carefully Grok Bot handles these things, and I’m really impressed by it Even Elon said that if Grok Bot makes a mistake with your purchase, they’ll make you whole That tells you how much confidence the team has in what they have built…. and it is really amazing. I just run out of limits every single week because I’ve been using it so much The interesting part is Grok Bot actually does a better job shopping than you in many situations Think about how often you open shopping website to buy something, see some random banner or attractive advertisement, and suddenly you’re looking at three other things you never even needed 😂 This happens all the time with online shopping These websites are absolutely filled with advertisements designed to grab your attention and get you to buy more things But Grok Bot can actually research what you need, compare products, find better deals, and save you a lot of money instead of getting you distracted in that entire mess of advertising And the amount of time it saves is actually just ridiculous You don’t have to spend hours browsing different websites, comparing prices, going through endless product listings, filling out forms, and handling every single step of the purchase You just tell your Grok Bot what you want, and it handles so much of the work for you. And whenever something actually needs your attention, it simply asks It gets so much easier, and once you start using these Grok Bot for everyday tasks, you really begin to understand how incredibly useful it really is

True
The games we've long wanted, which didn't exist because they'd cost several times more to make than they'd earn back, will soon become possible. As will the games developers wanted to build, but couldn't with the resources available. It'll be a new golden age of gaming.
