“I sure as hell didn’t follow the so called rules of the police that day. Because they had no business interfering in the work that I do. I wasn’t impeding theirs.
I’ve covered far too many acts of violence at the hands of colonial armed forces. And I know they shoot to kill our people at higher rates than any other race in Canada. And I know, thank God, I know my rights as member of the press covering police actions.
The criminalization of journalists on Turtle Island is barrelling out of control.
And most all of the journalists being arrested are covering Indigenous rights, land defence or marginalized protests.”
