I’ve had you by my side for so long I don’t even remember what life is without you in it. 19 years we’ve been together. Nearly half my life, I’ve had you with me. Through my biggest wins, my hardest losses, random Wednesdays I don’t even remember. You’ve been my best friend, my other half, my source of comfort. Just the thought of you, has brought me peace for 19 years. Every aspect of my life has a little bit of you woven into it.
Thank you so much for holding on as long as you did. I didn’t need the vet to say you’re a fighter for me to know that’s what you are. It’s almost like you knew I needed you to stay, so you stayed. I can’t thank you enough for that.
About a month ago, after you had a seizure, another of many lately, I sat with you and I whispered, “If you need to let go now, you can let go.” I think you might have heard me, like you wanted to give just a little more time for us to say goodbye. I hope you know I meant what I said. These next days will be unimaginably hard, unfathomably hard, but I will be OK. You can rest. It’s time for you to rest.
The wonderful thing about you Cooper, my Coopy Poopy, my Cooper the Pooper extraordinaire, is that you were my beloved pet, but you were also a living, breathing, reminder of your dad — who left this earth way before he was meant to. Whose memory I hold very close.
I’m happy to know you’ll be together again. And just like I do with him, I’ll feel you in the wind. I know you’re in good hands with him. And that somehow makes this a little easier. I hope you have so much fun together, just please don’t forget to check in on me once and awhile.
There simply aren’t enough words to express how much I love you or what you’ve meant to me, for me, through so many chapters of my life. This all feels surreal, a bad dream I can’t escape. But I meant what I said that day. I want you to rest easy, my fluffy marshmallow angel face. It’s time for you to rest.
