Referred to in court as Ms. Bryant. Judge is explaining the charges. Prosecutor Todd Greenberg said Bryant faces 1 count of 1 conspiracy to murder persons in a foreign country. Max penalty life in prison.
Wow, Bryant even told Van Rootselaar what kind of shoes to wear when she went to do mass murder. Bryant did not feel comfortable sending firearms to Canada, Floyd said. Bryant sent cash for the shoes too.
US media just asked "why not send Bryant to Canada for prosecution?" Acting US Attorney Neil Floyd said "all the activity connected to this was committed here" in Washington state. But yes, penalties are higher here, he agreed.
FBI Special Agent E. Mike Herrington said Bryant identified as a female, like Van Rootselaar, sometimes worked nights (worked the night before the mass shooting.)
No indication that Bryant and Van Rootselaar were part of any group. They met on a now-defunct website. Elija Rain won't comment on the weapons in the case, as per Canadian court publication ban.
Accused James Bryant even offered to livestream the mass killing, Acting US Attorney Neil Floyd said. Bryant helped even on the day of the shooting, he said. FBI worked closely with the RCMP.
Mounties have done more than 90 interviews and found digital and other forms of evidence. Analysis is still underway. Officers "working tirelessly on this file," Rain said.
Bellingham defendant James Cody Bryant, 30, charged with conspiracy to commit murder of Tumbler Ridge victims. Bryant was in touch with Jesse van Rootselaar for 6 months and encouraged the killings.
