In Florida, a lizard can sprint across the sidewalk in the middle of a conversation and nobody pauses.
The wildlife has been fully incorporated into the neighborhood.
Instant replay has made sports more accurate.
It has also taught every fan to delay celebrating until three camera angles and a rules analyst confirm that joy is allowed.
The group photo process:
Everyone gathers.
Someone says, “One more.”
Nobody believes it.
Three more are taken.
Someone asks to see them.
A second round begins.
Changing your mind gets treated like admitting defeat.
I think being presented with better information and saying, “Yeah, I was wrong about that,” is one of the more underrated signs of confidence.
One of life’s underrated wins is getting somewhere and realizing you have a really good seat.
Restaurant.
Game.
Concert.
Airport gate.
Doesn’t matter.
You know immediately when you got lucky.
There can be an entire empty room available.
And somehow two people will still choose the doorway as the perfect place to stop and have a conversation.
I like people who know a lot about something I know almost nothing about.
Give me ten minutes with someone who is genuinely fascinated by their subject and there’s a good chance I’ll start caring about it too.
Enthusiasm is contagious.
Some things actually deserve the hype.
The rare movie.
The great live sporting event.
A place you finally visit.
I like being surprised when something everyone praised turns out to be every bit as good as advertised.
“Let’s just go to the beach” sounds like a very simple sentence.
Then come the chairs.
The towels.
The sunscreen.
The cooler.
The bags.
At some point you realize you are not going to the beach.
You are relocating for four hours.
Someone arrives.
Someone notices.
Something moves.
We see it happen all the time without giving it much thought.
But sometimes a few inches can tell us something we never heard anyone say.

Every longtime friend group has unofficial positions.
The planner.
The one who is always late.
The one who remembers what actually happened.
The one whose version of what happened cannot be trusted.
Nobody voted.
The roles just became permanent.
