I do not understand how anyone who knows anything about the facts of chattel slavery and the transatlantic trade in enslaved people can for one moment dispute that anti-blackness remains a global structure, with multiple effects, that we are all part of.

Trinidad & Tobago PM KPB, invokes accusations of “racial hatred” against her UNC govt — to explain why trade unions and others are protesting against her right-wing govt tomorrow. She urges UNC supporters to not go near protest route (her govt has used police violence a lot):
TRADE UNIONS SHOULD PUT THEIR MEMBERSHIPS FIRST AND DESIST WITH THEIR SHAMEFUL POLITICAL AND RACIAL HATRED TOWARDS THE UNC GOVERNMENT Tomorrow a number of trade unions will betray common sense and join in protest against the UNC with the same PNM MPs who for TEN YEARS refused to pay salary increases, refused to pay backpay and insulted them with zero, zero, zero. They take this action against a UNC government who in eighteen months is already paying them their backpay, giving them updated salaries, offering them 10 percent increases and passing labour legislation to protect their membership. For ten years these unions refused to protest against the PNM government for their salary increases and backpay, instead they received small tins of biscuits, threats of losing their jobs if they wanted salary increases or backpay and ridicule that they ain’t riot yet. Every time there is a non PNM government or East Indian Prime Minister in office the unions wake up after sleeping through the PNMs time in government. The joke that Trinidad is not a real place will become reality when we see the same persons who exploited and humiliated workers for ten years, Imbert, Dhanpaul, Beckles, Young and Al Rawi walk hand in hand with the same union leaders who just eighteen months ago they treated with disdain. Hopefully the PNM MPs will address the protest and explain their insulting actions over the last ten years towards workers. Sadly, no matter what the UNC government does for some trade unions, it will never be enough. It is clear that the protest tomorrow by these unions and the PNM is driven by racial and political hatred of the UNC and not by actual efforts to get benefits for their members. Given the recent comments of the PNM MPs invoking hatred towards UNC members, I encourage all law abiding citizens including UNC supporters to avoid the proposed protest route and POS altogether if you can tomorrow. These protesters are not driven by rational thought, they are driven by racial and political hatred of the UNC and may attempt to provoke you and the TTPS into a violent confrontation. The PNM and their supporting unions leaders have betrayed the workers of our country. Let them have their day tomorrow to make fools of themselves. The law abiding hardworking citizens of Trinidad and Tobago who see right through this protest charade will continue to prosper under the UNC. May god bless you all. 💛

An overtly racist network targeted Arday. Not a single outlet investigated that until after his death. This award is a whitewashing of the industry’s failures in its most literal sense. It’s also just appallingly bad taste.

Christine Buckley was born in Dublin in 1946. But this baby girl had a Nigerian father which in 1940s Ireland was quite unusual. Christine was placed in Goldenbridge Industrial School in Inchicore, run by the Sisters of Mercy, and there she stayed until her teens. Goldenbridge was meant to be a place of safety and care for kids. But like most Industrial Schools it was a prison for innocent children where they suffered hunger, beatings and fear. And any difference, like being a mixed-race child, got you singled out for particular cruelty. Industrial Schools also involved forced child labour. In Goldenbridge girls were made to produce rosary beads in bulk, with punishment waiting for anyone who fell short of the quota. The irony of tarnishing a symbol of love and Gods mother by abusing children forced to manufacture them is a unique evil. After surviving years of incarceration Christine finally was old enough to leave and trained as a nurse and midwife, and spent years bringing other people's babies safely into the world. Like countless other women failed by the state and church they made a career being kinder and more humane to the innocent. In 1992, Christine Buckley told her story (and in doing so the story of countless other victims) on The Late Late Show. And sadly, like so many other tales of injustice told before Irish society was able to accept it, the reaction against her was ferocious. She was doubted, attacked and accused of exaggeration. And some of the doubters were powerful and had obvious self interests. She kept going anyway. The 1996 documentary Dear Daughter put the stories of survivors in front of a national audience, and denial became far harder to sustain. In 1999 the State finally apologised, and the Ryan Report of 2009 confirmed what survivors had said for decades. Christine Buckley founded the Aislinn Centre to support former residents of the institutions and gave hundreds of them something they had rarely had, a room full of people who believed them. She pressed for redress and for the truth to be told in full. She was the recipient of the Irish 'Volunteer of the Year' award in 2009. In December 2012, Trinity College awarded her an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in recognition of her work for people who were subjected to institutional abuse. She passed away on 11 March 2014, aged 67, having forced a nation to face its past and also created a better future for girls and women in Ireland. christineb.ie/

Of course what is “pragmatic” to those whose material, social, political, and economic arrangements are rooted in imperialism is imperialism trojaned as "Incrementalism". Reinforcing structures of oppressive violence is most pragmatic to white supremacist hegemony for centuries.

Ukraine did this after Cuba spent hundreds of millions of dollars treating thousands of sick Ukrainian children from Chernobyl. Cuba spent 20 years providing specialised care they couldn't afford in Ukraine. Ukraine paid nothing, voting to starve Cuba was their payment I guess.

HE IS FUCKING DEAD, HELEN. And still, apparently, you cannot summon the basic decency to acknowledge that the allegations of plagiarism were repeatedly investigated and never substantiated. Instead, we are treated to this grotesque little exercise in intellectual taxidermy, where you stuff the corpse of an allegation with qualifications, technicalities and insinuations, then parade it around as though it were still alive. Who the fuck is arguing that Jason Arday never made a mistake? Who is claiming that his work was beyond criticism? You're inventing an argument nobody needs to make because acknowledging the actual findings would require something rather more difficult: admitting that the people making these accusations might have been wrong. There is something utterly repugnant about watching people who pride themselves on intellectual rigour suddenly discover an inexhaustible appetite for ambiguity whenever the evidence fails to vindicate their suspicions. And now the man is dead. His family is grieving. Yet the reputational autopsy continues, conducted by people apparently terrified that acknowledging the findings might deprive them of the last fucking word. This is not courageous journalism. It is moral cowardice dressed up as scholarly fastidiousness. Have some fucking shame.
Surely it can be possible to conclude that the attention was disproportionate, and his race was a factor (both in his promotion and his hounding), without having to pretend that he did nothing wrong and has been "cleared"?

No one has seen or heard from my father since August, when he explicitly said that he was being tortured and that the regime was trying to kill him like Egypt’s government did Morsi. The UN Special Rapporteur on torture has repeatedly stated that his treatment amounts to torture. Pakistan’s fascist regime, led by military dictator Asim Munir, continue to ignore the Supreme Court order from August for my father to be assessed and treated at the private Shifa International Hospital, as well as for regular access to family visits and access to his lawyers. It is clear that they are trying to kill him as he is by far the most popular political figure in the country, and they fear him. If the worst happens, no one should make any mistake who is responsible. It is Asim Munir with the approval of the illegitimate Pakistani government. Every government that continues to legitimise this regime will be complicit in this and the resulting chaos and destabilisation it causes in the region. No state that is engaging in friendly relations with this fascist Pakistani regime can truly claim to uphold the values of democracy or human rights.

I know a very great deal but I don't talk to pop-up self-appointed 'committees'.
The CAF-commissioned independent investigation into Cambridge University’s appointment of Jason Arday is now up and running, and needs the assistance of those who know Cambridge best. We strongly encourage current and former academics, students and other members of the University community, as well as others with relevant knowledge, to come forward with information. This might include policy documents, internal correspondence or first-hand accounts concerning Arday’s academic record, his appointment and subsequent time at Cambridge, the University’s response to concerns about his scholarship and its treatment of those who raised them, and the development and application of institutional policies relating to recruitment, promotion, academic misconduct, research integrity and equality, diversity and inclusion. Anyone wishing to contribute can contact the Investigator directly at: investigator@ardayinvestigation.net The website provides further guidance on submitting information, including arrangements for particularly sensitive material: ardayinvestigation.net/ This is a rare opportunity to bring matters long discussed behind closed doors, amongst trusted colleagues, into the light. Those who have witnessed decisions or practices that they believe warrant scrutiny, but have hitherto felt unable to raise their concerns through official channels, can now contribute to an investigation independent of the University. Please help us spread the word and ensure this appeal reaches as many Cambridge academics and others with relevant knowledge as possible.

SCOOP: Nadia Beller, the Bolivian whistleblower who survived an assassination attempt ordered by Trump associate and political operative Fernando Cerimedo, tells me authorities are seeking to arrest her as soon as Friday. According to sources within the Bolivian government and police, the case will argue that her (brave) testimony against Cerimedo’s crimes—which range from U.S. backed election interference to drug trafficking—is evidence she had prior knowledge and failed to report. Beller, a lawyer herself, cites multiple legal grounds for immunity and says this is an obvious attempt to silence her for exposing a corruption network spanning from Washington DC to Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, and beyond. Beller’s whistleblowing prompted investigations in Argentina and Chile, including a congressional commission probing Cerimedo. The Bolivian attorney general who arrested and charged Cerimedo with femicide for the attack on Beller was sanctioned by the U.S. and later detained by Bolivian authorities. Beller says she fears for her life and the life of her unborn child, which Cerimedo allegedly fathered. She is calling on the international community to support her in the face of political lawfare, attempted femicide, and state repression. Please share far and wide.
