Casey O’Neill says her viral submission was pure instinct after getting frustrated with how the fight was going:
"I didn’t actually expect it to go so viral. In the moment, I didn’t realize what I had even done. Honestly, I felt like I kind of blacked out.
I don’t remember even knowing that I was going for that or anything. It just happened in the moment.
It is something I’ve worked on before, but in terms of drilling, not really. It’s just something that I felt in the moment.
I really wanted to show off my striking, and I threw a kick and fell on my ass. I was so angry that I was on my ass and stuck on the bottom.
I was like, ‘Man, I’m just gonna have to pull something off.’ So I just kept trying to throw my legs up and find something, and ended up finding something pretty cool.”

“I’m really confident. I may know some stuff, but we’ll keep it... She commented back saying, ‘Let’s get it,’ so she seems to want it too.
She’s got a big name and she’s above me in the rankings. We both came into the UFC around the same time and both got that push and momentum. Mine stalled with the injuries, but now I’m back on track.
It’s a fight I’ve had on my radar since I’ve been in the UFC. I think it’s time now.”
