Governance is the product. DAOs as the 21st century institutions we need is the endgame. Trust in institutions on the planet is at all time lows. DAOs offer the design and experimentation space to do reps, to iterate and create trusted and effective 21st century institutions. Right now the promise and the practice of DAOs are diverging. DAOs are reimporting the worst of our nature in new DAO clothing. DAOs need an action learning loop: Theory -> tools -> practice Holding this view we hold ourselves to a higher standard, we: Name, detect, build. We design out the anti-patterns, the non-virtuous conduct humans in groups have been prey to since the beginning of time. We incentivise and amplify virtuous conduct. We do this through tooling, training and incentives prioritised in a culture that recognises that the best governance wins and with that understanding invests in an intentional governance development lifecycle. DAOs move from won’t be evil, to can’t be evil, to a force for good. Evolving in a feedback loop that calls forth the better angels of our nature, by design, by engineering a system that’s an upward spiral aligning action that’s both good for the parts and for the whole.

Might be more compelling if you possibly decode the acronym. What the fuck is a DAO?

Do you happen to have any examples of successful DAOs? It often seems almost impossible once there’s more than one person involved. Success might only be possible if: 1. Everyone is deeply engaged in the project; 2. No one is trying to extract personal profit from the DAO; 3. All members have solid governance experience; 4. There is at least one active leader managing day-to-day operations and facilitating collaboration among members; 5. In the case of a community DAO, funds are distributed fairly based on clear and transparent metrics. Otherwise, we tend to see the same old problems—just dressed in new DAO terminology. Frankly, I used to think DAOs had run their course years ago (I have 4+ years in many DAOs). It’s surprising that some people still put their hopes in this model. That great! That said, I do hope HoS turns out differently.
