The index of only top 4 stocks outperforms any larger index: sovereignoptimist.com/i/2117…

When you buy the S&P 500, you blindly allocate capital to the biggest companies. When everybody does it, the index sets the price instead of following it. Price discovery is dead, and increasing concentration is a natural consequence.

It’s true that the more concentrated the portfolio, the higher the volatility - but volatility matters only in the short term. Here is what many forget: Growth is volatility. In the long term, the better-performing basket will usually be the more volatile one.

A regular person should not follow hedge funds. Long-term they don't outperform indexes, and indexes are simply dragged by top tech stocks. Top 30 > Top 100 > Top 500

I remember learning how shares work and being excited about attending shareholder meetings and getting to vote. In reality, most modern investors never experience any of this. ETFs, RWAs, CFDs, fractional shares - ownership is outsourced in many ways. Even with regular shares, voting rights are often limited, and most investors never even think about using them. Have you ever participate in a shareholder meeting?

I forgot that writing in compiled languages needs a strong multicore machine: - Ruby: 10 agents doing different things - Rust: 1 agent hogging all resources for 25min to run the full test suite The M5 Ultra makes sense after all.

In 2016, I wanted to build a website that compares different objects in the Solar System. It was always a bit too much work for a project that couldn’t be monetized. Yesterday, I oneshotted it with a ridiculously small prompt (below).

solar.janklosowski.com/#eart… The prompt: "Build comparison tool for objects in the solar system. It should behave similarly to tools comparing phones etc. but there is no winner - two columns for different metrics - beautiful 3d realistic representation of each object in relative scale so they're always both in the same scale rotating slowly - cover sun, planets, all moons and the most famous asteroids - dark color scheme, beautiful minimalistic design"

At this point, Trump’s bromance with Putin is just bizarre. Why does he keep doing him all these generous favors while Russia helps Iran? What’s going on?

If $TSLA and $SPCX merge, SpaceX holders will likely do better: Elon owns only ~15% of Tesla, so he’s incentivised to favour his bigger stake.
I enjoyed the Roadster demo, even though it’s not the car you’ll be able to buy. Not because the “flying” won’t be allowed - it’s not even in the offer: you can’t pre-order it. It does suggest a merger between SpaceX and Tesla though. SpaceX can become a true American chaebol.

I like how people suddenly have a problem with the Roadster being impractical: “What’s the use case?” Isn’t the whole idea of a performance car that it’s basically a toy? What’s the use case for any two-seater? It’s not made for regular roads and speed limits anyway.

I can’t wrap my head around the US supporting Putin. Russia is literally the only country in the world with nuclear warheads aimed at American cities. Truly mind-blowing.

A lot of excessive token usage comes from really dumb things unsupervised agents do: Unoptimized Rust tests run for over 100min while the agent wakes up every 10 minutes and loads an 800k-token context each time, etc. This kind of stuff burns through your limit in a few hours.

The lack of pro-Russian comments is impressive. What happened? It wasn’t like this a week ago. Oh, Yandex data centers were destroyed. Got it.
And so the slaughter continues … Time for Zelensky to go

S&P 500 is a geriatric relic. If you look for a simple replacement ready for the next decade, it's $QTOP - the top 30 Nasdaq companies that generate most of the market growth. sovereignoptimist.com/p/the-…

What most critics miss is that the software cycle has died. Yes, people still use legacy software and will for years to come, but good luck promoting a new app. In the past, the first users were “early adopters,” but that avatar is exactly the person now playing with AI.
Software is dead It's now the era of personal software and everyone just builds what they need whenever they need it I think

The apps people are still paying for are those giving access to content, data, infrastructure, network, distribution. Nobody pays for features anymore.

Youtube is not software, but infrastructure and distribution.

It’s still easy to imagine a season when the whole stock market is down. But a season when non-tech companies outperform the tech giants that provide their essential infrastructure doesn’t make any sense.
