Today we’re announcing Petal: the world’s first petabit-class transoceanic subsea cable and the first to deploy multi-core fiber at scale. Spanning 7,000 km (4,000+ mi) between France and the United States, Petal will deliver 1 Petabit per second (1 Pbps / 1,000 Tbps), doubling the capacity of today’s most advanced transatlantic systems. Petal is set to enter service in 2029, setting a new standard for high capacity, high density SDM subsea cable designs. Yesterday, we open-sourced MiniCPM5-2B. Today, we’re opening up the RL stack behind it. Meshy is a service-based RL training framework that decouples inference, rollout, and training into independent services over a unified data plane. • Supports on-policy, bounded off-policy, and fully asynchronous RL • Recipe-driven SPMD placement, built on SGLang + TorchTitan • Unified data plane for tensors and control signals • Ready-made recipes for MiniCPM5-1B / 2.6B, including 128K context-parallel training JustRL II introduces a critic-based approach for more precise token-level credit assignment across long reasoning chains, enabling more stable long-horizon RL for small language model. Together, Meshy and JustRL II form the RL stack behind MiniCPM5-2B. 🔧 Meshy: github.com/OpenBMB/Meshy 📝 Meshy blog: maydomain.notion.site/meshy-… 📝 JustRL II: panhaoxuan.notion.site/justr… 🤗 Hugging Face: huggingface.co/openbmb/MiniC…

We’re sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, one of the deepest problems at the frontier of mathematics. The proof was produced by a group of agents, using an OpenAI next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra. The problem concerns whether the description of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations can break down. It has remained unresolved for roughly 90 years.

yo @thsottiaux looks like we're gonna be getting another one of those uhhhh banked resets 👀

Hear me out ok. Astra is really good at solving puzzles. What if we just phrase engineering problems as puzzles with constraints?

We will give one banked reset for every day you don't have access to Astra on your paid ChatGPT plan, starting today. Team is moving mountains to give access as fast as we can. First one will land in ~ 3 hours. There is still time to create your account if you don't have one.

Across our benchmarks, the model sets a new standard. It scores 52.6% on Terminal-Bench-Science 0.1, more than double Fable 5. On Terminal-Bench 4.0, it scores 55.8% against 42.0% for Fable 5.

Rainmaker just produced ~19M gallons of water in Alaska via next-gen cloud seeding over 3 hours of operations. We are the first company to provably produce precipitation in Alaska. As promised, we’ve linked our white paper and relevant data. In the future, Rainmaker will protect and restore glaciers with man-made snowfall. Immediately, this demonstration shows how Rainmaker will add new water to the Colorado River and Great Salt Lake in the coming months. We turned around this analysis and white paper just a couple days after operating. There are many data sources I want to deepen our understanding of the atmosphere and increase our provable production; we’re building the instruments to collect that data in subsequent operations. But at Rainmaker, we won’t tout LOIs, simulations, or lab tests. What matters is physically measuring that you’ve affected the atmosphere; proving that we’ve produced water. We prefer sharing only the tech that has proven to make more water for farms, industries, and ecosystems in need. Expect a regular cadence of these from us as we build the best atmospheric science lab in the world. Feedback is welcome in the interim. Rainmaker Century. rainmaker.com/blog/alaska-va…
