Hiroshi โHersheyโ Miyamura was born on this day in 1925 in Gallup, N.M. He is known for being the only soldier whose Medal of Honor was classified Top Secret while he was held as a POW. His story is one of patriotism, bravery, loyalty and humble service against incredible odds. /1
ALT Hiroshi Miyamura was a Staff Sergeant. This photo was taken after Miyamuraโs repatriation during Operation Big Switch in August 1953. After spending 28 months as a prisoner of war, he crossed the Demilitarized Zone into the U.N. command center at Panmunjomโs Freedom Village for medical processing, debriefings and transition out of the theater as a newly released POW. Miyamuraโs Medal of Honor citation does not adequately express his dedication and self-sacrifice. His acts of courage were focused entirely on protecting his men. During his 28 months as a POW, he grieved over those he believed were lost and felt guilt for failing to protect them. After receiving the Medal of Honor, he viewed himself as its custodian, stating that he wore it not for himself, but on behalf of all the men who never made it home. When he died in November 2022, he was buried with full military honors next to his beloved wife, Terry, leaving behind a legacy of humility and quiet citizenship.
Side note: Coincidentally, I just finished writing an article on water infrastructure upgrades. Utilities are spending $12 billion to $14 billon a year on upgrades, and they need be spending a lot more. I would expect water bills to keep going up for the foreseeable future.

Grocery costs have skyrocketed, and water bills have spiked two times higher. In this case, it isn't corporate greed. Most of our nation's water infrastructure was built in the 1960s and 70s, and utilities need to spend billions on updates.

It's early in the arguments, but the Supreme Court seems divided over the City and County of Boulder's lawsuit against oil producers, demanding compensation for climate change damages. A tie would allow Boulder's lawsuit to move forward in state court.
