Lately I've been thinking a lot about mathematicians What does it feel like to be surpassed by AI? What does it do to your sense of self? Your beliefs about your work? About the future? So we found some of the world's best mathematicians and asked them A chronicle of a moment in history:

We're publishing our most detailed threat intelligence report to date. It covers how people tried to misuse Claude—for cyberattacks, influence operations, surveillance, biology, and building weapons—and how we found and stopped them. We disrupted every operation in the report, and used the lessons from them to strengthen our safeguards. Where appropriate, we also shared what we found with authorities and other AI companies. These cases are not typical: we’re highlighting some of the most sophisticated misuse we’ve seen. But they’re especially important to discuss, because they show us where AI misuse is headed, where our safeguards work, and where they need to improve. We’re publishing this report so others can spot the same activity on their own platforms, and so we can give the public a clearer view of how emerging threats develop. Had the pleasure of speaking with @kprescott on 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗼𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 @thetimes about where AI security is heading. We talked about why I’m optimistic in the long run, but also why in the shorter term, defense must keep up with the pace at which model capabilities are jumping.

Today @SciTechgovuk launched two things to help British businesses: 1. The selection process for the site of the £750m heterogenous supercomputer (announced in DSIT’s AI hardware plan just a few weeks ago.) The tech business editor of the Times @kprescott pointed out how big of a deal this is: “£750 million — is for a new supercomputer, known as “heterogeneous”, which combines different types of chips, so it is not dependent on one provider. This is a real game-changer and very different from the UK’s 100 per cent Nvidia-powered Isambard supercomputer, which opened last July. In addition, British start-ups are capitalising on this push for sovereignty with technical solutions playing on this “heterogeneous” system.” 2. The cloud access call that invites British SMEs to apply for £400,000 of cloud compute for AI R&D activity. Excited to see what our amazing startups will do with this! Hats off to the brilliant AIRR team at DSIT who work so hard (and fast!) to make a difference for Britain. gov.uk/government/publicatio… thetimes.com/business/techno… gov.uk/government/publicatio…

Anthropic is hiring a for a role in London that will be paid up to £630k A YEAR. This excludes stock options. For a long time the UK has been seen a location for cheap offshore talent. There's nothing cheap about a 7-figure package for a researcher (the role is Research Engineer, Science of Scaling). I've been celebrating the recent OpenAI and Anthropic expansions in London. However, in reality, they may end up pricing out, or poaching talent from, some of the capital's home grown companies. Great article in @thetimes from @kprescott all about this linked below
Anthropic has announced that it is massively expanding its London presence. It’s just secured a new office for 800 people - a huge jump from its 200 current employees. OpenAI announced its first permanent office in London this week and now @AnthropicAI is doubling down. Meta, OpenAI, DeepMind, wayve and so many others have huge offices in London. It’s becoming the leading AI hub outside of the US. LETS GO
