just found out that a Ukrainian refugee who moved to columbus, ohio to have a safer life with their child actually moved back to Kyiv because living in the US was more or less impossible and living in an active warzone was preferred / easier.

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH! It's been a tough time for our community so while we continue to fight for equality and acceptance, we're gonna be celebrating queer joy all month long. Because we deserve it! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤

A slew of anti-LGBTQ bills are moving through the state Legislature. They include bans on preferred pronouns in Florida schools and gender-affirming care — as well as restrictions on drag performances that could make public events like Pride illegal. trib.al/bC0vdtK

NO ONE in podcasting was doing the kind of journalism that @LouderThanARiot mastered. It is a singular show about music, culture, and justice. Their latest season - about misogynoir and marginalization in hip-hop - is already a triumph. Read about this team (@Sid_Madden's thread below) and respect their work by listening & supporting.

fr yall need to know how Realer Than Real this team is: @manosundaresan, who produced today's ep on the legendary MC Sha-Rock, is one of the best writers I know. Incisive storyteller, literally the future of culture-shaping music jrnlism npr.org/2023/03/21/116498675…

We're issuing a correction to our tweet last week. Per our CEO John Lansing, NPR followed its principle that position eliminations not disproportionately impact POCs and other historically marginalized groups, in that NPR has substantially the same demographic breakdown as before

The hardest part is that our szn is about misogynoir queer, trans, Black women face in hip-hop. Yet w/in NPR, the majority impacted in these layoffs were queer, poc staff & programs. NPR has claimed qtpoc ppl are the same ppl they are trying to reach with their "North Star". 3/4

🧵Louder Than A Riot has been cancelled by NPR. Our producers and editor have been laid off, although NPR would like everyone to stay on until June to finish publishing the show. We are taking some time to process what this looks like for our staff. 1/4

Layoffs are coming at @NPR this week. Sadly, many people whose voices you don't hear and names you don't know will be affected. Here's a shoutout to all the producers, editors, engineers, and office workers who make public media so great + vital. Cheers to you! #pubmedia

My time at NPR is coming to an end. Proud of the last 12(!) years, despite the recent rocky months. Very much looking forward to a break. Layoffs this week are affecting 10% of NPR.

2am in Washington, DC. @npr's morning crew is waking up to views like this: Streetlights illuminating the awakened cherry blossom trees. There's a good chance some of the folks getting up early to inform America will be informed today that they no longer have jobs. 😔 #nprlayoffs
