A few principles I’ve come to believe about competition: 1) You’re more likely to win or lose because of your own company’s actions than those of your competition. This is particularly true of startups but I’ve found surprisingly true at scale as well. 2) Being copied isn’t always inspiring. But it usually means you’re leading. Don’t waste energy looking over your shoulder. Lead, don’t follow. 3) There’s more to learn from customers than competitors. Consumer markets are hard, but they’re honest. Sales, engagement, and retention are the only scoreboard that matters. 4) There’s a difference between obsessing over competitors and harnessing a deeply competitive spirit. The former distracts you from your true intuition. The latter gives you the extra motivation to do your best work. 5) Creating a market is valuable. Continuing to lead after others copy you is even more valuable. You’re innovative and durable. 6) Remember big, growing markets attract competition. Competition validates the opportunity. Now go win.

Meet my boss! Enjoying jumping into my next chapter with @jacobandreou by @SebasAHerrera
NEW: You may not know Jacob Andreou, but Satya Nadella has handed the 33-year-old the keys to Microsoft’s AI future. This is my deep dive into his rapid rise to head Copilot and the high-stakes bet to retake the AI lead from competitors.

Teenagers have started calling AI art “boomer art” and consider it cringe. I honestly couldn’t be happier.

Giving AIs "lifelike" voices shows a desperate lack of imagination. I want a studiously inhuman chip voice. I want a voice like wind. I want words made of birdsong, that trick my auditory cortex and read as human speech. Anything but quotidian human speech.

After working with many founders during a PR crisis, here the advice you get for each price level. Hopefully it will save you some money. 1. In-house Comms • Cost: $0 • Advice: Put out an apology and announce changes, which will subsequently get picked apart by every critic. • Cycle Length: 2 years or more 2. Mid-tier Comms Agency • Cost: $10,000 retainer • Advice: Go silent, don’t say anything. • Cycle Length: Goes away in 2 weeks 3. S-tier ex-Whitehouse Crisis Firm • Cost: $50,000 retainer • Advice: Just post through it like nothing happened. • Cycle Length: Goes away in 48 hours

The stages of playing with GPT-3: - OMG this can do anything - There goes my job - I should start a business around this - Some of the responses aren’t too good - Actually, some of these responses are just awful - This isn’t really intelligence - This is just spicy autocomplete
