the map on the right is a render and not a photograph! its just super accurate
I'm going to release like the way I did this so take it with a grain of salt until then
tldr of my approach, and so you know lro has taken pictures of the south pole with the sun coming from 30 different directions
so logically, a height map + a sun direction gives us a render, find the one terrain that render matches all 30 photos and boom your elevation map is crazy
