i would rather be an optimist and work hard than a pessimist posting about why things won't work. it's much more difficult and the most likely path is failure, but society fails if people don't try. no amount of "it will never work" essays will drive society forward.

There are many reasons to believe in a Loving God but rock-look-pretty is one of the dumbest mainstream arguments for it imo. rock-look-pretty guys are always claiming: Thing is Good, Good Not Easy, Therefore God. There are probably many ways to argue against this from an atheistic perspective, but I think it’s easier to do FROM a position of Faith. Every average to above average IQ western person is approximately aware of multiverse theory (which is not at all “ruled out” by theology.) If you assume we are in a multiverse-type situation, then there are infinitely many universes without pretty rocks. There are infinitely many *with* pretty rocks. There are infinitely many where rocks are not possible at all. Substitute “pretty rocks” for whatever is being claimed as surefire proof of intelligent design. In any one of those infinite other iterations you could also have infinitely many other forms of life (again, theologically not ruled out whatsoever, this is fully in line with modern scholarly theological teachings in all major forms of Christianity.) In any of those other infinitely many forms of possible life there are infinitely many possible rock combinations where no one is having this dumb argument, or where they are instead having other dumb arguments about other forms of proof of infinite variety. None of them ultimately answer the question of whether there is a God if you believe: God is the Prime Mover and thus precedes all of these possible universes. The nature of Faith is of course that it must be unprovable. If He is the Thing before all things, he made every single one of the rocks and there will therefore be infinite examples of things that look like intelligent design and infinite things that look random. You arrive circularly here and realize that, once again, you have only the choice: to have Faith, or not. You can never prove. You should not outsource your decision to evidence which will inevitably, always, be built upon unprovable foundations. This Faith in things seen is brittle. This is one reason I am skeptical of the modern miracle believers too, but I should be working.
