Traffic fatalities have exceeded homicides in the City of LA the last 3 years & 2026 fatalities are outpacing 2025. Unfortunately, the political will to invest in departments (transportation, engineering, & street services) that service traffic safety infrastructure is lacking.

From a staff position perspective (FY2024 to FY2026): - Street Services lost 406 positions, -26% - LADOT lost 285, -16% - Engineering lost 120, -12% Currently, the City is in a hiring freeze till Jan 2027 for new positions, so departments are still operating w/ FY2026 staff #s.

My Office has pleaded with the Mayor & City Council for more auditors & fraud, waste, & abuse investigators. Instead, our audit and fraud, waste, & abuse budget was cut in FY2025 by the Mayor & City Council w/ the exception of CD 1, 4, & 13. We're in a lack of oversight crisis.

Close! The city's annual pension obligation/contribution is close to 20% of the City's General Fund which is the main fund that funds city departments and services. It's also the same fund that pays for most of the city's massive liability payouts. 🫠

To clarify, the City budgets a certain amount for Police Liabilities which they blow past each year. And yes, these payouts do not come out of the LAPD's "Operating Budget" but the General Fund. This has drained funds for other city services because the City is self-insured. 😭

I thought it was in a special Liability fund and is not part of the police budget, therefore lapd litigation costs are in addition to the LAPD budget, no?

Yes, in the police budget but LAPD normally blows past their liability claims budget. For context, LAPD liability payouts for the past 2.5 years amounted to over $300 million (budget for same period: $93M). Check out our liability claims dashboard here: liabilityclaims.lacontroller…

Here ya go! The City of LA Pension/Retirement contributions for this current fiscal year for the top 3 line items: 🚔 LAPD: $621 Million 🚒 LAFD: $220 Million 🗑️ Sanitation: $134 Million ~$1 Billion for just these three make up 7% of the total city budget of $14.8 Billion.

City Hall MUST do more to protect our LA Animal Services employees, volunteers, partners, and the animals. For years, this department has been underfunded and understaffed and even worse, these past few years' of budget cuts have eliminated nearly 20% of their staff positions.

We received a Fraud, Waste, & Abuse tip: An affordable housing developer was renting out their affordable units to friends and employees from another related entity. Due to legal ambiguity around covenant language, we couldn't substantiate the claim.
