There is a collective belief within the Lakers that their defense will force their offense to improve, and their offense will force their defense to improve. JJ Redick: "It's going to make Austin & (Luka) better when Ziaire is picking them up full court every possession and Matisse is in the passing lanes trying to blow things up. Adou with his physicality off the ball. Those guys are going to get better from practicing that way and it goes both ways." Austin Reaves: “trying to score on Matisse and Ziaire, especially with Adou out there too, and then Walker on the back line, is not easy.” "They all annoy the hell out of me. Like I talked about, Matisse and Ziaire, yesterday were on the same team and it was not my team, which wasn't fun. But it's good to just get those reps in early. I think they're two of the best defenders in the league.” Matisse Thybulle: “You have to work so hard, they’re so talented. I think for me it’s great because getting to play against two of the best offensive players in the NBA every day primes you for what to expect

Adou Thiero on being smarter with his athleticism: “Just my decision-making, knowing when to play off two, overpowering the defender, going up and finishing or being able to hit my teammates for open shots.” “I just felt like I’ve been getting better with it throughout the summer and realizing when to use my athleticism. But then again, I feel like there’s also times where I’ll be able to jump with three people and still go dunk the ball. Just me having that confidence in myself and knowing what I can do in each situation.”
