Retrogaming of the 8 and 16 bit variety. That's my jam. 😎

Amok (VIC-20) 5K of RAM, 176x184 pixel screen, four sound channels, no sprites. I actually had a ton of fun with this unexpanded configuration of VIC-20. Most arcade conversions weren't exact, but Amok here made for a fun Berzerk clone for me. I spent hours on that game. 😎

🎡 Yellowed creme and yellowed creme 🎡 🎡 Live together in perfect harmony 🎡 🎡 Side by side by my mouse and keyboard, oh Lord 🎡 🎡 Why don't we? 🎡 (Apple/PC analogue joystick, and USB track ball.) 😎

I realise the conversation round here might soon be dominated by discussion about the new GTA game. πŸ€” It could be time for me to return to Vice City. 😎

Yeah, I may have bought a joystick.. again. 😊 I already have one of these. They've got a real good feel to them. But the old one doesn't do right properly. This one is a bit twitchy on some of the movements, and fire. Might need some contact cleaner. 😎

Moon Patrol (arcade) 🎡 da-da da-da-da da-da-da! 🎡 Love that music. Gorgeous parallax scrolling too. (The first game with parallax!) πŸ€“ youtube.com/watch?v=SSh--9mB…

Mission AD (C64) There's something bouncy and warbly about the music of Fred Gray that I just adore. No other music on the C64 sounds like his. The game itself, Mission AD, is yer basic run-n-gun type of affair, but needs quick reactions to survive. 😎 youtube.com/watch?v=HfbG_3Ea…

Deluxe Pac-Man AGA (Amiga) There may be a huge plethora of Pac-Man clones out there. But every once in a while, something like Deluxe Pac-Man appears, and everything's alright. 😊

Interesting quirk with Deluxe Pac-Man: With a regular joystick or joypad, where these combo's aren't possible, you're fine. But, if you play it in an emulator with keyboard controls for the joystick, the game gets confused by any simultaneous up+down or left+right movements: πŸ˜„

Choplifter (C64) A beautifully made conversion of an Apple II game that even made the jump to an arcade version later. Choplifter has you rescuing men while defending you (and them) against tanks, jets, and the occasional over-aggressive satellite. 😎 youtube.com/watch?v=FILXUJBb…

WipeOut Phantom Edition on Windows is really a fun way to revisit the original PlayStation 1 classic. But, what if it's too sharp and antialiased for your retro sensibilities? Why pipe it through ShaderGlass I say, to give it that old-timey CRT look. 😎 youtube.com/watch?v=rVsc26FX…

Ghostbusters! Hahahaha! πŸ‘» This is one of those few movie licenses where they've had to invent much of the gameplay, but in true Activision form, they've made a good, addictive game for those who want to bring their Ghostbusting to their home computer. 😎 youtube.com/watch?v=7TOycapv…

I went back to this one because the programmer of C64emu has just added an option to disable the virtual 1541 disk drive. There were quite a few Activision releases where the game would fail to run if any peripheral, such as a disk-drive was detected. 😐 youtube.com/watch?v=9jER_WBy…

Monkey Island 1 (FM Towns) I know there is much to be done to become a pirate.. I just keep revisiting it from time to time to give the old man a fright, sneak into the kitchen, and talk to the dog. πŸ˜„

I'm out travelling for a couple of days. Left the house quick, and I didn't get the GP2x handheld ready to take with me. 😐 Last time I decided to try out the Amstrad emulator, which I'd hardly touched before. Y'know, it was really fun to try new versions of old games I knew. 😎

I was reminded how much I like Android II β€” both the Speccy and C64 version. I found out the hard way that the Amstrad millitoids take three shots, not two. 😐 I was also reminded how much I like, but I'm not very good at, Archon. 😎

I like how Paradroid lets you wander the ship, shooting the s** out of all these rogue droids. But also when you find a powerful one with a good weapon, you can go "I'll have that" and take over its brain. 😈 Though I've kinda tired of the transfer game. youtube.com/watch?v=4pumb9xB…

I haven't posted much Amiga content lately, partly because the machine can do so many screen modes that it can be hard to get a video where the view doesn't jump about between the title/loading/game parts. 😐 Paradroid 90 was nicely consistent here. Runs well in NTSC mode too. πŸ‘
