A Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) is like a private safe built inside a computer chip. It protects data while the computer is actively using it --> What’s the problem? Rand is saying: If someone can physically access the server, TEEs alone can’t guarantee safety --> Meaning TEEs are strong against online attacks, but not enough if someone can physically touch the machine With the right tools, it can be tampered with --> So why do we still need TEEs? Good security is layered, not standalone. TEEs are incredibly useful when combined with systems like MPC (Multi-Party Computation): which splits a private key into many encrypted pieces across different servers MPC ensures no single server has the full key And TEEs protect each piece individually Even if one server is compromised, the key remains incomplete and safe This is basically what defense-in-depth means Lastly, since the biggest weakness of TEEs is physical access, Rand said that one way to remove this risk is to put the hardware somewhere humans can’t reach like space And that’s exactly what @SpaceComputerIO is building: secure, tamper-proof crypto hardware in orbit I hope I did justice to @zama founder tweet #ZamaCreatorProgram
