CDC AWARE OF 5,100 UNCONFIRMED CYCLOSPORA REPORTS AMID US SURGE
A CDC official said the agency is aware of more than 5,100 additional reports of cyclospora that require confirmation, and has issued a health alert urging physicians to test for cyclosporiasis, per the CDC.
That is on top of 1,645 confirmed domestic cases since May 1, across at least 31 states, with 86 hospitalizations and no deaths reported. The US recorded about 2,700 cases in all of 2025.
Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by a parasite spread through contaminated food or water. The CDC and FDA have not identified a source; past outbreaks have been linked to fresh produce such as basil, cilantro and berries.
