Between the bid & the ask
Price is only the output. Most commentary starts with the output. I start with the machinery. Every week I publish The Market Machine, explaining how market structure, liquidity, dealer positioning, volatility, and capital flows combine to produce the move everyone else is reacting to. If you want to understand WHY markets move..not just where they moved, Welcome. LS substack.com/@longandshortmk…

SPX is up 0.60%, but only 155 stocks are higher. $SMH and $MAGS carry it. The rally stalled at the edge of today’s expected move. Options flow has turned to puts since noon. Volatility was sold anyway. Friday’s mirror: then the index fell on even breadth, now it rises on weak breadth. LS

The market is repairing Wednesday’s damage. But the job isn’t finished. Overnight value moved above Thursday’s. ES futures back near 7754. Dealer gamma flipped positive again. Today’s monthly expiration removes a net negative gamma block. Two levels decide the repair: 7760 Vol Trigger 7775 Regime Flip Reclaim both, and the structure improves. Fail, and the week’s breakdown remains unresolved. LS

Dealers remain short gamma. Chips are selling globally. Bonds rallied into the data. The inflation shock got bigger. The price reaction got smaller. LS

The breakout failed before the bell. Futures pushed above last week’s balance overnight. Buyers couldn’t hold it. Dealers long gamma. Vol near one year lows. Yet call skew sits at the 92nd percentile. Traders are paying bigly for upside. Meanwhile, crude $93.15 and VIX rising alongside futures. Quiet tape. Expensive optimism. Unresolved risks.
