🚨 The FA were pushing for
#SaintsFC head coach Tonda Eckert to be banned from all football and football related activity for a minimum period of three months as well as receiving a fine, and referred to the 2024 case with Canadian women's team as a precedent.
Paul Harris KC argued against this for three primary reasons:
◉ what he described as ‘exceptional’ mitigation
◉ the inevitability of Tonda Eckert losing his job if there were a three-month ban
◉ because another entity will also suffer, namely the Club and its supporters
The commission's starting point was a four-month ban and £75,000 fine, but in mitigation, they found that Eckert was a particularly impressive witness, who showed genuine contrition for his actions.
A seven-week reduction to that 16-week ban was then applied (becoming nine weeks), plus an additional one-third reduction for admitting to the charges, resulting in six weeks.
