Former justice minister (current foreign affairs minister) Helen McEntee back in hot water as RTE reveals the legal defence she used to justify throwing a Garda whistleblower Brian O'Reilly under a bus, didn't apply to any Garda below the Garda Commissioner.
In other words, she inappropriately used a law which didn't apply to ordinary Gardai below the rank of Commisioner.
So much for her claim in the Dail she "acted appropriately" at all times.
In response to these RTE revelations, the Department of Justice said it "does not comment on, confirm the existence of or give details of any specific protected disclosure."
You'd expect Labour TD Alan Kelly will be back on this case, which he calmly told the Dail a week ago would return to the Dail in comings weeks, months & years.
In the Dail, fmr justice minister Helen McEntee claims this week she "acted appropriately at all times" when challenged about throwing one of the Garda whistleblowers under the bus.
But in private, an official from her Department wrote to the Garda whistleblower to apologise for "inadvertently" revealing his name to the very people the whistleblower wanted his name kept from. It was "human error" said Helen's official.
How do you square the "acted appropriately at all times" with the apology for human error? Was Helen being Jesuitical with the truth, or misleading the Dail, or just lying her wee backside off?
Alan Kelly, sounding like the leader Labour should have, said last week in the Dail "the Minister should not worry; we will cover them in this Chamber over the weeks, months and years to come."
