Around 40 million years ago a star (supernova 2026aaiv) exploded in the galaxy NGC 7331. Last Friday I managed to image it from my back garden! 2nd image shows it absent in July. #astrophotography #astronomy #supernova

NEW from me: China's CO2 emissions fell by 1% in the second quarter of 2026, as oil consumption plummeted amid the Strait of Hormuz crisis, with EVs and public transport among the key factors. Oil consumption fell by 9% overall and by 16% for transport. 🧵

I love everything about this, on so many levels ❤️✨⚡️
It was on a tour of a substation with James that I decided I wanted to write this book. He is a model of the engineer as steward! A hero out there keeping the lights on everyday. Here is how I opened the acknowledgements

A 14th century “bestiary” I was shown at the Bodleian Library in Oxford. A cultural wellspring that continues to flow into our language and imagination - ever been “licked into shape”: see the bear

This exhibition in London (National Gallery / Nov 26 - April 27) is without a doubt one the most important events in years: all known portrait paintings by Jan van Eyck will feature in one exhibition!

The football was 4x as good? A goal 4x better than Maradona’s Goal of the Century was scored? 4x the drama? Shows the divergent thinking here…
Gianni Infantino has finally received the public backing of President Trump on social media.

On a peaceful evening in Provence we stumbled across a funeral monument dating back to 30-20 BC…. …and a Triumphal Arch dating to 20 AD, illustrating Caesar's conquest of the Gauls. Glanum - Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France

The Wiggenhall churches are one of the best days out…in the WORLD
The church of Wiggenhall St Germans is one of my favourite anywhere. There's nothing grand, smart or fancy about it — just layers and layers of history, displayed with unselfconscious affection — a living, working church as well as a place of immense history and holiness

The lost Saxon church at Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire. The question of whether to use hyphens (or not) in the town’s name remains a popular enthusiasm within local Facebook groups, a has been the case since 1783
